"Having him as president EVEN IF HE IS SOCIALLY LIBERAL, yes, EVEN IF HE SAYS STUPID THINGS, would be better than Jeb or Hillary. That is the paradigm change. We need a political revolution."

That sounds really romantic and swashbuckling and exciting, but it's completely off target.

Trump is more than a social liberal.

He supports universal health care.

He is a big eminent domain guy, and has twice tried to snatch the property of landowners for his own personal profit.

He believes in raising taxes on upper income earners.

He said that the economy does better under Democrats than Republicans.

So make no mistake, electing Trump would be a disaster, because you would be electing a textbook Democrat---might as well go for Hillary or Jeb and be honest about it.

Not to mention Trump is simply unsuitable for the office of president. The other day he was on Twitter yelling about kicking someone's a##.

Then there's his 2006 appearance on "The View", where he talked about his daughter's nice figure and said he would probably date her if he wasn't her father.

Is that the statesman you want in the Oval Office? I sure as hell don't.

Your question is misplaced. Here is the best answer you’ll get.

The real reason Trump is surging.

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/3313408/posts

Summary: He’s doing what most want to do but can’t because we’re small and smushy and don’t need any life changing investigations or accusations. Trump is rich and self-actuated and enough lawyers to dissuade the threat of say government lawfare.

Hello Everyone, I carefully read all the replies before posting, and wanted to add another side to this discussion. I have watched and participated helplessly thru the past 40 years or so, as professional politicians artfully, and deliberately sidestepped issues, ignored them, blamed them on others, or just plain, insulted those who would pose them, the result was that by the time we got to the voting booth, we were all completely confused, except for the previous week of debate. Many were so despondent, that they did not vote at all. Historically, the young love to argue, but do not follow thru at the ballot box. IMO, this is why small minorities of passionate voters who persevere thru to the voting box tend to succeed. THIS PRACTICE DOES NOT APPLY TO THE SERIOUS VOTER, WHO DAILY LEARNS THE TRUE NATURE OF THE CANDIDATES THRU DIFFERENT SOURCES.
That being said, I find Trump refreshing for a different reason. Of course I enjoy him holding the current administration up to ridicule where justly deserved, I enjoy SOMEONE, ANYONE actually articulating the issues important to the everyday voter, and those questions, or accusations, being reported to the MSM. What I really like is the discussion on these issues in the diners and coffee shops that I visit, the grocery stores I shop at, and the news I view. I see people that normally would never discuss these issues, talking. THAT’S BIG. Now Trump, or Bernie Sanders may not get to be president, but at this point, it is secondary in importance to ME, more important, is those candidates who have the intellect, and experience to confront those statements with cogent answers. I take note of those who will not answer at all, I also take note of publications like Huffington Post that just announced they will no longer cover Trump. Sometimes its more telling in what you don’t do, than what you are willing to do.
1. Get the nation talking issues.
2. Don’t limit the topics to what’s PC
3. Don’t fall for race baiting to stifle discussion
4. Stay on Topic thru to a conclusion
5. Be consistent in what you say and do.
6. Be responsible for your words and do not fall prey to people who would muddy your words and their meaning.
7. Challenge the voting history of the candidates, for what they say is not nearly as important as what they have DONE.
8. Make them commit to the Constitution, and prevailing law of the land.
9. Reduce the footprint of the Govt involvement in our lives.
10. Don’t just tell us you will remove Obamacare, tell us what you will replace it with, if you will eliminate it all together, or what???
11. Do you support States Rights, and peoples rights to live by their faith based convictions, or for that matter, personal convictions without retribution, if it is your own personal business.
These issues and many others have been discussed by Trump, I am not saying that he has the correct answers, or ones that I personally agree with, but he at least brings these issues to the national stage. It is my hope that by doing so, he will encourage, and even force the other candidates to discuss them, and hopefully they will learn, as it is painfully obvious that at this time, he is leading the pack of Republican candidates, and Bernie Sanders is leading the Democratic and independent candidates at this time, heck, even Ron Paul is making inroads with constructive comments IMO. You might not agree, but for the most part, I am not speaking about those politically savvy, or debate savvy people online, I just wanted to point out another viewpoint. I am a dedicated reader and not too often a contributor, but am interested in your responses.

"And yet, no one is agreeing with you."

Yes, there are.

And I've been told via Freepmail there are plenty of others who really don't want to deal with the Trump wolfpack.

I was not talking to you. I really did not think I was talking ABOUT you. If you happened to see a reflection of yourself in my post to C. Edmund Wright, that can not be helped. Everything is not about you....or Trump!

Methinks thou dost protest too much.

Trump just took a clumsy swipe at McCain and insulted every POW in the US. Go defend him on that thread.

I will exercise my First Amendment rights and pray for you....Bonnie.

I like Trump for his ability to chum the waters... But he is basically unelectable. The South won’t vote for a Yankee, and don’t even try with the Christian Right. Without the South and the Christian Right, turning out in droves, there will be no win.

Oh, BKepley did that too.

Turns out he liked illegal aliens, thought they were wunnerful, and that anyone who followed the law on the subject were snitches..

Has he offered any details on just how he plans to make that happen?

In all fairness, he'd be a fool to reveal his plans, you never tip your hand. That is not a rally valid criticism like the rest of your points.

Hi, Ron

You have a point. The thing is, Trump has a history of making grand claims and not following up.

Remember all the information his investigators were digging up in Hawaii...nothing ever came of it.

....”There are plenty of others who really don’t want to deal with the Trump wolfpack”....

Yes that’s true....but I think everyone likes the issues he’s bringing front and center even if he trips over his own two feet from time to time...that is Trump as we know. And folks like his passion which yes evoke emotions but people have needed to “feel” somebody cared enough to speak with gusto.

Frankly I’m enjoying the Trump ride.....including watching him trip, he’s learning THIS ground he’s walking isn’t as smooth of a ride he thought he could navigate. It’s fun watching the news pundits and opposition try and get their arms around this moving target...they really don’t know how to handle him.

In the end the opposition, working throughout their domain and his...will bring him down sufficient to halt his popularity....that’s how they work.... They knock our guys off one at a time...and this time to clear the way for Hillary.

Meanwhile I’ll just enjoy the ride with Trump....but my guy will always be Cruz.

Yes, Catherine, I remember indeed.

Still got to hand it to Trump on this one though. If anything, he’s smoking out the rino’s big time!!

For the record, if the election was tomorrow, Cruz is my man....we’ll see where we are this time next year as many things are going to change.

Hope you are well!!

Yup.
He was.

He started in that thread there at the linked post, then continued to double down on it.
Even got insulting with people who felt illegal aliens shouldn’t be rewarded or coddled.
Interesting read.
Right up until post 249 in that thread.

LOL...I am the one dodging questions? If anything, you Trump supporters are the dodgers...and for good reason. You support a Democrat.

Also, how am I causing trouble simply by asking questions about your candidate of choice? It is sad that you have nothing to counter with.

There should be no contest between Cruz and Trump...this is what disappoints me about so many on FR. They claim to be Conservatives...until the support someone who is not. Cruz is the one for me, but I’ll vote Trump against Hillary.

You are right to an extent, but the choice shouldn’t be hard. We aren’t turning on Trump simply by asking his supporters WHY they support someone who has, until recently, been a Democrat.
