Riddle me this batman: how the hell does a trained soldier accidentally shoot himself? Especially with his own weapon? Idiot.
Well.....that is why I said it may have been a pocket gun..They are notorious for discharging while in a pocket with say.....a set of keys in it...
Just a guess..
I have a .25 auto that I frequently carry when in the woods or working under a house..[snakes..etc]
But I learned very quickly to put it in my boot, or in my back pocket. The safety has a nasty habit of turning it’s self off to the fire position.
i don’t know about training now but when i was in in the late ‘70s there wasn’t a lot of small arms training, especially handguns.
They’re not trained to handle concealed weapons in violation of military policy.
If it were on his belt holster openly and allowed by policy, there wouldn’t have been a problem. Instead, he was faced with engage in illegal carry or be a sitting duck in hunting season. Some people do not hassle illegal carry well.
Because a lot of recruiters are Soldiers in name only. They never deploy or do anything Army related. They sit in the recruiting office their entire careers.
I’m very sceptical given the timing.
