When I was stationed overseas in the 80s (mountaintop comm site in Turkey 83-84, mountaintop comm site in Germany 84-86, back to Turkey 89-91), we kept a low profile as an anti-terrorist measure (note I said anti-terrorist, not counter-terrorist).

When I was on the mountaintop in Turkey, this went so far as mandatory civilian clothing when off-site and modified grooming standards. The other two times, we were allowed to wear uniforms to and from work, but were not to frequent local establishments (stores, restaurants, bars) in uniform.

But that was OVERSEAS.

Now I’m to understand that military personnel are to go “low-profile” in CONUS???

I remember going into a bank. There was a short line outside to be screened by a guard, an elderly man with an Uzi in his lap.

They do this in the Philippines too. Usually 3 guys (young, not old) with street sweepers. Philippine malls are definitely NOT gun free zones. I have never seen so many heavily armed people in such small areas. They have their own problems with muzzies and commies.

There is no link so I find this hard to believe. Exactly who gave such an order? And to whom did they give it? In the chain of command only the President and Sec of Defense can order the entire military. (Maybe these days the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff too, but I doubt that)
