Donald Trump’s rise in the polls has caused heartburn for many people in the Republican Party, but it is the second-tier candidates in the presidential field who have been hurt most of all.
Candidates who have years of political accomplishment to their names are being starved of oxygen by the business tycoon. Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry, three-term Sen. Lindsey Graham (S.C.) and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie are among the figures being sidelined by Trump — and their annoyance is bubbling to the surface.
Earlier this week, Graham complained about the rules for the first major televised debate, which is less than a month away and will be limited to the top 10 candidates in the polls. At present, Trump would easily make the cut and Graham would not.
“I think my voice needs to be heard on foreign policy,” Graham said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” “It’s July 2015. I don’t expect my numbers to be any better than they are. But I expect to be given a chance to take Donald Trump on, to talk about why I’m different than Rand Paul, to challenge everybody on the stage and have them challenge me. So this debate construct, I think, is bad for our party.”
Graham also slammed Trump for his controversial comments on immigration, saying that he was using his voice to “demean and slander a whole group of people.” And he insisted that debate rules that might exclude not just himself but also the sole female candidate in the GOP race, Carly Fiorina, and Ohio Gov. John Kasich, showed Republicans being “really dumb as a party.”

Thanks for the info. I guess I’m not up to date on the ins and outs.
However, this is still consistent with my point that its better to thin the herd early than to go deep into the season with many nearly equally strong candidates, which would make a brokered convention likely.
They've been doing this to viable candidates who weren't their faves for 16 years now. It goes back to Quayle being marginalized for using an alternative spelling of potatoE.

I have not joined the Trump bandwagon but keeping us from enduring Graham presence endears Trump to my heart.
If Trump DOESN’T make it to the White House I think we’re screwed. I really like Ted Cruz, and I’m taking a look at Walker; both seemingly good men. But we’ve been down this road so often before.
I think this is our last shot at saving our Country. I’m afraid of what would happen if either Cruz or Walker were elected. Everybody knows that the moment a politician gets elected, his immediate goal and drive and direction of his energies is toward RE-election.
So when either one found themselves in the Oval Office, and the entrenched old GOPe mossbacks were pounding on them and threatening them to withhold campaign funds for reelection if the don’t play ball; and their deep pockets donors were threatening them with the same, and the drive-by media was raking them across the coals, they’d ultimately cave.
Trump doesn’t NEED anybody’s money. He can follow his plan and ignore carping and threats. All he needs is protection by the Lord from all his naysayers, and to realize that he needs the Lord to conquer this huge and long-entrenched cartel; which I’m praying and thinking will come as he progresses and as the enormity of the job sinks in.

A good reason why Trump would be smart in choosing Cruz as his running matw would be so Cruz could get Executive experience under a great mentor and be in better positioning to run for POTUS in 2024 (or 2020 if Trump declines a 2nd term).
I NEVER in a million years thought I would be rooting for Trump!!!!! I am with you money has COMPLETELY taken over our elections AND entire government THE DONALD doesn’t NEED the money!!!!!! How much worse could the country be with Trump at the helm for 4 years????? I believe he WOULD at least listen to his military leaders!!!! NO ONE has a bigger ego than OBAMMIE!!!! Mr. My way or the highway, at least Trump knows how to negotiate with people because he has done it his entire life!!! As far as donating to the Clinton foundation let’s face facts here folks you can not build THE DONALD’S empire without greasing a few of these slime ball politicians palms!!!! They are politicians, not negotiators. For all their careers they’ve had their hands out for OTHERS to pay the tab for them to get into and then to REMAIN in politics.
They bend and shape their message to what they think will satisfy their donors. In the end, the common man, who makes this Country work, gets screwed over.
After a term or two of Trump defeating the DC Cartel and getting things back on track, a Cruz or a Walker could then take over and do well. But initially, we need a man who is beholden to nobody but God. That’s Trump.

Ted Cruz took on a good ol boy RINO establishment candidate here in Texas to go on to win our senate seat. Then he went on up to D.C. and the republican establishment hates the guyz guts. Man, that ought to tell ya somethin right there.
He went there and started kickin up dust the minute he arrived. McConnell hates him.
Ted Cruz is a conservative constitutionalists and frankly a hero down here.

I like Cruz. He was my TOP guy, because he was the best we had, until Trump stepped up. That still is not really taking anything away from Cruz, per se.
In “normal” circumstances, Cruz would be an ideal candidate. Everything else being equal, there isn’t that much daylight between Cruz and Trump, except for Cruz’s polish and his legal education, as contrasted with Trumps brash courage.......and financial resources.
Cruz’s Achilles heel is the same as 99.44% of all candidates. He needs money to survive politically. We may kid ourselves, but anyone who accepts donations for their campaigns is going to be affected in their positions and declarations by those of the deep pockets people ponying up their campaign money. Trump does not have that problem. He doesn’t have to depend on anyone but God. And for some reason, at the moment, Cruz can’t seem to get much traction, hovering near the bottom in the polls. I’m really pleased that he’s got a good relationship with Trump. He’d be the ideal VP candidate with Trump.
Because of the huge dimensions, and the deep entrenchment of the DC Cartel, much as I like Cruz, I don’t think he has the chops to take on that cartel and bust it up. I have no doubt at all whether Trump has the chops for it. To be totally frank about it, I think Cruz is too much of a gentleman to employ the brass knuckles combat that will be needed to make a lot of the old GOPe mossbacks retire and leave town; and make the newer members cut the crap and toe the line.
After Trump has served his two terms and has things straightened out and headed back in the right direction and the Country is booming again, a la Ronald Reagan, then is the time for a Cruz or a maybe a Walker to run for President and continue the dynasty for 8 more years.
No offense, Tex. But we only have this one last chance to save our Nation. We need to use our big gun right from the get go. Otherwise we can agree to disagree. Who knows what will shake out in a year and a half anyway. Obunga may refuse to leave and declare martial law. Then the fecal matter will fall into the ventilating equipment like never before.
