Video: Drone Drops Whoppers For Homeless People in SF
SF Weekly ^ | Mon, Jul 13, 2015 | Jeremy Lybarger

Could drones be the answer to solving hunger among the homeless? Or just an ethically murky mash-up of technology and altruism?

In 2014, Dronelyfe, a San Francisco-based production company that specializes in aerial video and photography, collaborated with L.A.-based filmmaker Mitch Surette to create a video in which a claw-handed drone drops Burger King Whoppers into the hands of homeless people.

The Independent and Daily Mail over in the UK “rediscovered” the video last week, launching anew wild speculation about the video’s origins and purpose. In an interview with Popular Science, Kristopher Kneen of Dronelyfe confirmed that the video wasn’t a publicity stunt and wasn’t sponsored by Burger King. Kneen called the air-dropped burgers a “proof-of-concept.”

It's unclear whether that concept is better than filming homeless people scrambling after air-dropped hamburgers.

You are in with this first. Still, one of the funniest sitcom scenes ever. “Oh, the humanity!”.

I think that the only way of getting out of journalism schools nowadays is to prove you can write inane leads like this one.

...a claw-handed drone drops Burger King Whoppers into the hands of homeless people.

Haven't these homeless people suffered enough the way it is?

I’ve read where it’s illegal to give the homeless free meals and I believe at least one priest has been arrested more than once for breaking this law. How is this any different and why do drones have to be involved???

So, Nancy Pelosi is now going to be using a drone to spread her lies?

It’s all fun and games until somebody gets hit in the head with a hamburger that has reached terminal velocity...

What IS terminal velocity for a Whopper, anyway?

I’d appreciate figures for both “with cheese” and “without cheese”, if possible...

In a brief internet search, I found this link to a methodology for calculating the terminal velocity of a cow, but I have been unable to find anything for “processed cow”:

Well I guess that’s a better title than the reality: Homeless Drop Whoppers in San Francisco.

“Could drones be the answer to solving hunger among the homeless?”

Sure. Hopefully in the same way the Indians were given blankets (with smallpox) to keep them warm.

Of course, in SF, the homeless are probably pissed about a free hamburger...it’s probably considered a form of intentional mental torment: first they give you free food— but it’s not vegetarian; then the beef hasn’t been laced with anything— what is this freaking Kansas dude? You expect me to eat a cow carcass straight up with no chaser?
