Atlanta NAACP Says “They Can Sand Blast Lee, Jefferson Davis, And Jackson” Off Stone Mountain
CBS Atlanta ^ | 7/13/15 | Maria Boynton

Posted on 07/14/2015 11:09:04 AM PDT by barmag25

The Atlanta Chapter of the NAACP is calling for the removal of the Confederacy from Stone Mountain Park. Local chapter president Richard Rose says, “It is time for Georgia and other Southern states to end the glorification of slavery and white supremacy, paid for and maintained, with the taxes of all its citizens.” According to Rose, “all of this recognition of Confederate generals is upholding the white supremacy on which the Confederacy was founded and the war was fought.” He goes on to say, “all of this should have ended in 1865 when Lee surrendered to Appomattox.” He’s referring to, what historians refer to as, one of the last battles before Confederate Army General Robert Lee surrendered to Union Army Lt. Ulysses Grant on April 9, 1865. Recent debate about the emblems was sparked by the mass killings at Emanuel A.M.E. Church in Charleston, South Carolina. Alleged gunman Dylann Roof was seen in photographs posing with the Confederate Flag. While some consider the flag as a commemoration of their heritage, others consider it a symbol of hate. On Friday, South Carolina removed the flag from its statehouse grounds.

Georgia removed the Confederate emblem from its flag in 2001, though the “Stars and Bars” from the First National Confederate Flag remain on the state flag. The Confederate Flag still flies at Stone Mountain Park, which is owned by and run by the State of Georgia. Many, like Congressman Hank Johnson, see the park as a museum for the Confederacy. According to Johnson, “where do we draw the line, do we blast the faces off of Stone Mountain?” Rose says “yes”. He adds, “they can sand blast Lee, Jefferson Davis, and Jackson off tomorrow. I’d be extremely elated.”

Please try and grow up and come up with adult suggestions for real adult problems. If they sand blast this mountain will race relation between blacks and white in Georgia be better. No........ Will there suddenly be more jobs available for black youth? NO. Will black men suddenly stop walking away from their black babies? NO. Will some mentally deranged DNA challenged white kid who live his life through chat and sees all blacks as mud creatures suddenly see the Grace of God because the mountain was sandblasted? NO> NO> NO> So lets stop with the childish PC nonsense grow a pair and start trying to come up with adult answers to serious problems

The naacp is the spoiled mouthpiece for a spoiled demographic that is desperate for funding therefore must always have alarms to raise.

if you ever get a chance, go there - the tram ride up is a hoot and once on top the carved graffiti from years past is a riot..it goes back more than a century...on the way back down in the evening they had lasers outline the carving then they moved in such a way as to make it look like the horses were galluping

As someone on here once said: if they knew then what we know now, they’d have picked their own damn cotton(and the savages would have been left to rot like they are doing now in Africa)

Have been a couple of times... both before and after the laser show. It’s a pretty dramatic-looking setting: easily more than the pictures suggest.

"Jefferson and Washington had slaves...lots of them."

The difference being that Washington was a sufficiently good plantation manager, and saved enough to allow him to free all his slaves at his death.

Jefferson spent his entire life in debt, and, although he too felt slavery was wrong, couldn't afford the loss of wealth that freeing them would entail.

That's more like it. I see that anachronisms don't bother them when they make them-"national association for the advancement of colored people".

Which African cousin sold Rose’s ancestor into slavery, huh? Don’t like it here, then hop a plane back to where you came from. There are 2-3 flights to Africa every day. Pick one.

Yes, but they’d rather be here near their “oppressors”. they even follow their “oppressors” in our white flight.

My thoughts exactly. They can all go back to Africa. I’m sure we can find a few who’ll help with the fare.

I’d be fine with our taxes paying for a one-way ticket and a million dollars, tax-free, for everyone who takes the offer. Of course, one must hand over their US citizenship, benefits and passports on the tarmac when they arrive. It’d save us a TON of money in the long run.

The Democrat party is also an artifact of slavery and the Confederacy.

Does the Atlanta NAACP propose eliminating it also?

If not, why not?

Repatriation is a great solution. Marcus Garvey came close.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marcus_Garvey

Why not conduct a poll of black Americans, including those in prison, that asked if they could get free transportation back to Africa, plus a one-off stipend of $10,000 each to start over, would they want to return to Africa for good? That is, citizenship in an African country, never again to return to America?

You have to wonder how many would jump at the chance.

I went once...had no idea there was a laser show, until I got stuck in traffic for it. So I went to the show. It was very impressive (and this was circa 1986, I imagine its better now).

But I also remember lots and lots of kids running around...enjoying the show...playing with overpriced glow sticks, etc.

Many of these kids were....

Black.

I got the impression that these were inner city kids, on a field trip of sorts. They enjoyed the show as much as anyone else.

I think race relations have regressed in the past decade, thanks to race pimps and opportunists.

“...when Lee surrendered to Appomattox.” Wow. That is some courthouse. It was so tough, Robert E Lee surrendered to it. We should send Appomattox Courthouse after the Iranians to make them quit pursuing nuclear weapons. Mount up General Appomattox!!!

Maybe the NAACP can boycott the park and it wont be so damn crowded. Guess they already tried that July 4th and despite that and rain had to close the gates to the park because it was so full.
