Who knows? He’s a showman, a wildcatter entrepreneur showman. Barnum & Bailey, Chuck Barris and any other flamboyant egotist you might think of.
If the question is meant to infer some sort of nefarious Democrat scheme, I don’t know to what purpose. If I were a Democrat, the very last thing I’d do is insert the Donald into the opposition’s campaign mix and headline it with the truth the biggest single act of sabotage ever perpetrated on this country. That being the sustained effort to legalize illegals and hid it all under the guise of “immigrant rights”.

At some level it’s the same motivation as all of them have - ego. Ego is the absolute central motivator of politicians - except for those whose primary motivation is making money, and the small number who actually want to help make the world a better place. Beyond that, I think he truly believes what he is saying. Just my take.
