Gov Haley:Confederate Flag ‘Never Should Have Been There’

Friday on CNN, Gov. Nikki Haley (R-SC) said the Confederate flag, which has now been removed from the grounds of the statehouse, caused political battles and personal pain since it went up and declared, “It just never should have been there.”

“It’s a true new day in South Carolina,” she said. “When I came into office, to have a two thirds vote threshold was a huge one. It’s not a Republican/Democrat, white/black, there hadn’t been a billed filed to bring it down since 2007. There was so much of a divide and so much hurt in the compromise of 2000, that no one wanted to talk about it. So it was almost like people just assumed it was going to be there.”

When host Don Lemon asked, “This flag went up in 1962, correct? Do you think it was sort of a poke in the eye to the civil rights movement?”

Haley answered, “You know, I’m not going to try to figure out why people did what they did. I think the more important part is that it just never should have been there. I think that even when it was on the grounds of the statehouse, it was right in front. These grounds are a place that everybody should feel a part of. These grounds are a place that belong to the people of South Carolina. What I realize now more than ever is people were driving by and they felt hurt and pain. No one should feel pain. You know, we can have our disagreements and we can have our policy back and forth, but no one should feel pain something, not over a symbol.”

With an governor who does not know US history and a Senator Graham who is more than mildly delusional, I am getting worried about the people of South Carolina.

The only positive is some of these good southern people will come to realize the GOPE doesn’t care about them. Not to donate to the RNC or help the RNC,etc.

Dittos. I don’t think it can be blamed on the Yankee immigrants.

So it begins, Revisionist History. Sorry can’t support Haley in anything in the future. Please read your history, may I suggest Henry Steel Commanger’s books on the Civil War.

Political PC BS grandstanders. No politicians stand up and tells the truth anymore. They’re more worried about getting donations than doing the right thing.

Rejecting Lee Bright to keep Lyndsay Graham convinced me that SC isn’t conservative country anymore.

I read a few weeks ago that she spends more time outside of SC than in the state. Primary voters in SC are nearly always wrong.

Well, it was the flag put their by DixieDemocrats. And they really hated the Republicans in their state. So I guess it was right for such people to put their flag up when they regained control of the South after Reconstruction when they made Black Codes the law of the South.

Me too. Up until now the muddle-minded Nikki Haley had no problem with the flag. Now suddenly, she all but accuses the flag of causing the tragic murders. She is repeating what the left is dictating. I believe she has a deep contempt for our history. I find something about her very disturbing, including her gloating about removing the flag. Above all, she is advancing the agenda of the left. Where will it stop?

"First they came for a Confederate battle flag, then . . ."

With an governor who does not know US history

What does she not know about U.S. history?

South Carolina made clear in their declaration of succession that they were leaving because the Republicans were hostile to slavery and sought to abolish it.

It seems perverse that people think the GOP should now celebrate the Confederacy. It was not a noble enterprise.

I'd rather celebrate the principles of limited government and individual freedoms with a flag from the American Revolution than the flag of a government created to deny equal rights to a portion of mankind.
