This penalty is so obviously an 8th amendment violation that levies an excessive fine of $135,000 over a wedding cake. In that is against them because they are Christian, it also violates the “cruel and unusual punishments” section of the 8th amendment, also.

And before that, it’s a violation of their first amendment religion and speech rights.

This, my fellow freepers, is pure religious persecution.

It’s pretty obvious that the government and liberals don’t extend ANY constitutional protections to Christians.

It is persecution and regardless of how it ends, the individual that is orchestrating that persecution will never be disciplined for it.

Can anyone tell me what the hell is the GOP family research etc doing about this.
This is a tyrannical Govt pushing its power onto private citizens and forcing them to ignore their first amendment.

I don't know how in the hell Oregon is getting away with this.
DC should be all over this blatant violation of the Constitution,
yet nothing is even being said from DC.

It may also be argued that it violates the 14th because they are being differently treated because of their beliefs..
It would be a stretch,,,but giving ‘mo’s different rights by making them a protected class was too.

What you write can’t be overstated. This judge should be in a cage.

Any fine in this case is wrong. If they pay this extortion the rate will only go up.

You could throw in "due process" if they appeal. They shouldn't have to pay a judgement on a case that is under appeal, because the verdict isn't final.

I said in a previous thread that Oregon state would take it by force, or garnish them wherever they go.

Looks like I was right.

Told ya.

Where are the protests? There “must” be conservative groups in Portland.

Seriously, that is an insane amount money and for what because they wouldn’t write a profanity on one of their creations?

Nobody is forced to buy their product, they are by no means the only baker in America. They were singled out because a few girls and lawyers want lash out against Christians while making a buck.
Emotional distress over not being offered by one particular vender the product or service you want should not entitle anyone to a dime.
It takes someone with the maturity of a spoiled 3 year old to think otherwise.

I like the notion of forcing a couple to do a wedding for gays and lesbians as cruel and unusual punishment.
