Eh, Iowa was never that big on FDR (one of few states to vote against him in ‘40 and ‘44), and Iowa politicians were among the New Deal’s harshest critics.

I grew up in rural Iowa and remember(with clarity) many farmers talking about how FDR saved them. They voted Dem for decades. As far as FDR losing the State I think it was the city influence. I looked to see if county by county results were posted on the net for those elections. Didn't find them in a quick Google search.
