Fireworks took on a second meaning in Chicago this 4th of July weekend.
Dozens of people were shot, including a 7-year-old boy who died while celebrating with his family. It was one of many incidents that police Superintendent Garry McCarthy called the result of a broken system.
The city saw a total of 34 shooting incidents this past weekend, the Chicago Police Department told ABC News. There were 48 victims, including 7 murder victims, according to the police.
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel was "saddened and sickened" by the weekend's violence, he said at a news conference Monday on an unrelated topic.

You know, things like that almost make a person wonder whether this is being allowed to go on, deliberately. It does serve three distinct Progressive purposes:
It allows the hard core criminal class to kill itself off. See that Freakonomics guy’s analysis of the correlation between abortion and crime. Also the Proggies’ lack of concern for collateral damage when it serves their cause.
It justifies increased calls for gun control.
It drives up the costs of emergency/trauma medicine (48 got shot, only 7 homicides), which increases the overall costs of health care, justifying single payer.
Throw in the allegations about the real intent of Fast & Furious and “almost” might not be the right term to use.
Enough with the LIES, Chicago Does NOT have a Gun Problem, Guns are ILLEGAL already and have been for a very long time.
A confederate flag was seen running from one of the shootings. If you see it, do not approach. It is believed to be armed.
