All this time we were blaming the Confederate flag, it turns out comedienne Amy Schumer was the only who inspired Charleston shooter Dylann Storm Roof to murder nine African-Americans.
So argues a Washington Post op-ed written by Stacey Patton and David J. Leonard, who are regrettably both college professors. Titled Dont believe her defenders. Amy Schumers jokes are racist, the pair rip apart Schumer for racial insensitivity in her comic material.
They open by comparing Schumers sketch comedy to Donald Trumps comments that most Mexican illegal immigrants are criminals and rapists. You might not think this duo has much in common, but they certainly share similar views about Mexicans. Whether joking or not, both draw on shared cultural stereotypes and use dehumanizing language that gives life to an ecosystem of racial fear and violence.

Schumer’s comedy appeals to the lowest common denominator. Oh, and you can now say ‘sh*t’ on television, apparently. When did THAT happen?
Strictly a publicity stunt to hype a who-the-heck-is-that new TV show.
When you can’t tell jokes, you know things are about to get really not funny.
Do you think the WaPo was in on the stunt?
Not senior editors at WaPo, but some inside editor and the two perfessers who wrote it did it for TV show pub. It’s the next logical step from Jon Stewart.
First they came for Andrew Dice Clay. He made fun of “fags”. Amy’s career is now officially over.
I think South Park did an epi on it about 10 years ago or so.
They even had a counter, iirc.
You have to watch something other than the Hallmark Channel.
Not that I listen to Glenn Beck that much, but I did catch an exchange a month or two ago about how the college circuit is pretty much no longer available to comedians in general, cultural and social comedians in particular, because of the antagonism against people that dare to voice observations of reality, let alone satirize it.
How grim
I still have yet to see a picture of the idiot father who bought that unbalanced son the gun.
The kid got the gun himself. The Dad buying it was just the day one rumor put to rest on day two.
I hear that Chuck the Schmuck is her grand dad. Or something. And I don’t want to envision “Inside Amy Schumer”.
Wow... Amazing, but I guess he got clearance.
Nuthin’ funnier than the Golden Girls. A laugh every few seconds. Have you noticed Hollywood can’t do THAT anymore. Everyone’s too hung up on the ‘anticipation of offending someone’ crap. Political correctness has DESTROYED television.
