Apple Watch sales plummet (90%) in competitive market
WDTN.com ^ | July 07, 2015 | Brittney Petro, Media General

(MEDIA GENERAL) – According to Market Watch, Apple investors have a reason to be cautious. A new market-research report shows a 90 percent drop in Apple Watch sales since its opening week in April.

Market Watch wrote, “Investors are used to seeing new products, such as the iPhone and iPad, fly off the shelves as soon as they are launched.”

The new “wearable tech” sold 1.5 million watches in the first week – about 200,000 a day. Now, the Apple Watch is selling fewer than 20,000, and sometimes fewer than 10,000, a day, according to Slice.

Slice bases its research on electronic receipts sent to millions of email addresses following purchases. The company conducts market research on behalf of consumer-goods companies, among others, many of them in the Fortune 500.

“Two-thirds of the watches sold so far have been the lower-profit ‘Sport’ version, whose price starts at $349, according to Slice, rather than the costlier and more advanced models that start at $549,” Market Watch reported.

With competitors like the health-monitoring Fitbit wristband, the Apple Watch has entered a competitive market for wearable tech.

Market Watch anticipates that “how well the watch fares may be one measure of how well Apple may be able to maintain the standards of excellence in innovation, marketing and production it achieved under (Steve) Jobs.”

First Apple product I have less than no interest in.

And - given the “upgrades” to iTunes and IOS systems, for the first time, I’m considering looking into other platforms.

Perhaps Apple should look back into real tech improvements and forget about supporting political causes.

Remember, Apple, your goal is to provide things we want at a profit to your stockholders. Every one in your company (everyone!) possesses an IQ and morality far, far higher than ANYONE in D.C. (Hmmmm, gotta think a bit more about your CEO, however.)

Don't say I didn't warn you Apple stock owners about this. They're a one-trick pony that's showing their rainbow colors lately. Not something to aspire to.

There just is no compelling reason to own one. And younger people effectively have a pocket watch already - their phone. If they want it to succeed, they need a killer app, and I don’t think the hardware and power is there yet for that.

I'm surprised they sell that many. I wouldn't use one if you GAVE me one for free. We have lots of Apple devices in our home, so I'm NOT an 'Apple hater' by any means.

Very true!

I don't know ANYONE under 40(myself included) that wears a watch. Not only phones, but the time of day is displayed on virtually everything that people are looking at. Just no compelling reason for most people to wear one on their wrist. The last time I wore a watch was during my early teen years.

The Microsoft Band is cheaper, just as useful and works with Windows Phone, Android and iPhone. I only take mine off to charge it a few minutes a day!

Microsoft Band

Shocking that no one wants to buy an overpriced, crappy looking bracelet that screams “I am a sodomite!”

lol

Good. Ever since Tim Cook joined the braying totalitarian mob to condemn Indiana’s religious freedom law, I’ve been rooting for Apple to fail.

BOGUS story and bogus data.

Slice doesn't have access to Apple's online store's data and is merely guessing based on nothing. . . they do not have access to Apple's email receipt system and the only sales come from Apple's online store up until June 26, 2015 at which point Apple started selling from their Apple retail stores for the first time. Apple does not share their data with Slice.

The chart they provided is equally bogus because there simply were no "sales receipts" in April for Slice to track as there were no sales made and no deliveries in April, only e-mails from Apple acknowledging pre-orders in April, and no actual sales receipts were issued until Apple started delivery in the first part of May, when actual receipts were emailed out at the time the Apple Watches were actually shipped and credit/debit cards were charged.

Apple sold out there initial stock in the first ten minutes of pre-order availability on April 10th which was estimated at over 2.6 million. . . so that shoots this article down as well. I ordered mine at during that window and it was delayed a month after the shipment date because of being back-ordered due to lack of supply exceeding demand. It took until the end of June for Apple to catch up on demand. That also shows this is bogus. . .

Oh, BS, KoRn, you've been a frequent Apple Basher for years in Apple threads. I cannot remember a time when you were not posting negative comments about Apple products.
