Center for American Progress helped craft EPA talking points, emails show

A prominent left-wing group helped formulate Environmental Protection Agency talking points designed to sell a controversial regulatory scheme to skeptical journalists, internal emails show.

The emails show Joseph Goffman, the senior counsel of EPA's Office of Air and Radiation, circulating talking points from Center for American Progress climate strategy director Daniel Weiss among EPA colleagues attempting to sell the agency's controversial power plant regulations to a New York Times reporter.

Weiss emailed Goffman in September 2013 with a series of suggestions for convincing the Times' Matt Wald of the commercial viability of carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) technology, a vital component of the agency's stringent power plant emissions regulations.

Five minutes later, Goffman sent an email to five colleagues in his office and the agency's public affairs division. Unredacted language in the email is identical to language in Weiss' list of talking points.

Time for the EPA to go. There is NO basis for it’s existence in the Constitution.

“Time for the EPA to go. There is NO basis for it’s existence in the Constitution.”

The GOP controls both branches of Congress. Congress is currently working on the budget bills for next year.

My prediction. The GOP will fully fund the EPA and all of its climate change programs, regulatory apparatus, and grants to progressive organizations.

"There is NO basis for it's existence in the Constitution."

The prez is supposed to implement, administer, enforce the laws or acts of Congress, and he hires people to do that, that are organized according to their task.

Because Congress was creating many environmental laws/regs, such as NEPA, CAA, CWA, etc, they created EPA to do that. The Occupational Safety and Health Act needs a Occupational Safety and Health Administration. The Federal Lands and Policy Management Act needs the BLM. A tax code, created by Congress, needs IRS to enforce it. The Endangered Species Act needs USFWS.

Sometimes they re-organize, such as in 2003, when they created DHS, or at the end of WW2 with CIA.

You can do away with EPA, but somebody still has to fulfill those duties; which are defined by acts of Congress and subsequent Judicial decisions.

CC&S is scam. The main way that it could reduce CO2 emissions is by making electricity so expensive that people will turn off their air conditioners (as suggested by Laudato Si) and otherwise reduce consumption.

CC&S reduces the efficiency of generation by around 35% at the power plant. Then the captured CO2 has to be transported and injected at the injection site, which takes even more energy. Then the injection site must be maintained in perpetuity to assure that the CO2 is never released. The life-cycle emissions of CC&S are theoretically infinite.

CC&S is a BS technology that the EPA is touting to ban future coal-fired power generation without explicitly banning same. That's why they need expert propagandists to fool the public.

Ever notice that all the network news show start with the same story nearly everyday and with the same dialog.

That just does not happen.

Maybe you should consult with a lawyer who can explain it to you?

Thanks anyway, but I can read the Constitution well enough to note that Congress has NO authority.

Why would I need a lawyer to try to ‘explain’ “...shall not be infringed.”, “Congress shall not make...” let alone to ‘help me find’ how Welfare, the Income Tax, the NSA/TSA and more ARE valid?!

No, we need more English majors, not lawyers.
