I’m thrilled that some 18 million Americans now have health insurance who didn’t before the law took effect

I don't believe this number. Something like 10 million people lost their health insurance due to Obamacare. You have to subtract that number from the number of people who actually signed up and paid premiums for Obamacare.

Plus; are they counting the increased number of Medacaid enrollees in the 18 million Obamacare number? From what I've read, the real growth in "insureds" is in Medacaid.

rising numbers of Americans are underinsured...

This is an understatement.

If a person makes more than ~$15k a year, they can't qualify for Medacaid. I know some older people who make $20k-$25k a year. Their Obamacare premiums range from $300-$400 a month and their deductibles are $6k a year. Plus, co-pays are unlimited.

They can't afford it.

So they either go without insurance, or they try to cut their work-hours, so they qualify for Medicaid.

And this writer is "thrilled"?

Out of whose behind did the author pull this claim from?

“$10,000 yearly deductible”

Sounds like catastrophic health care, but with catastrophic levels of access and catastrophic levels of cost...

That's the beauty of ObamaTax. You can almost afford to "buy" it, but you can't afford to use it.

Somebody should put together a play for Off Broadway that brings ObammyCare out of the shadows..

Please show me anywhere that a socialist program has ever succeeded.

Life is full of victims.. DemocRats have a way of mining this mentality of discontentment And entitlement and wreaking even more havoc as a result.

It's ok. It's free.

And the 46 million people who desperately needed this coverage in 2009 are all covered. /s

"...who has a $10,000 yearly deductible before the insurance kicks in."

Same boat here - my company used to have pretty decent insurance, this year it's gone to a gazillion dollar deductible. The good news is - after paying for my daughter's braces out of pocket, I'm half-way there....

And the rest were added to expanded medicaid. Goody, more dependents for me to pay for!

It’s only unaffordable to the opponents; the supporters will always call it “affordable”, particularly if they can find someone else to pay.

No matter what it costs, the American people are still expecting government to foot the bill.

A socialist program may fail, but the American people will call it a success every time they are asked.

The author is very misleading on several of the issues he raises. I think he is just trying to encourage lower income folks to demand even higher subsidies than they already receive.

People who buy the cheapest ObamaCare policies are clearly informed they must stay within their provider network or else there will be no caps on their out-of-pocket expenses.

If you or your family frequently travel, then you probably need to purchase a more expensive ObamaCare policy. My first thought on this is that people buy the cheapest policy, then they use the subsidy to take a vacation, then they demand that ObamaCare cover the higher costs if they get sick out-of-town!

And, personally, I'm in favor of some form of “Cadillac Tax” for employers and employees. Gold plated health insurance, at some point, becomes a form of tax free compensation.

Health costs in any corporation are socialized across all employees. If you can't insure all your single employees for under $10,200 each, you must have some seriously sick people working there.

the limits on out-of-pocket costs ($6,600 for an individual and $13,200 for a family in 2015

The above is the "cap" on out-of-pocket expenses. Are they serious? That's the same as having virtually no insurance at all. It's what we were told before ObamaCare was unethical...young people buying catastrophic health care with high deductibles because they were will to risk their youth and healthiness against any serious medical condition arising.

Now they force it on all their subscribers. Why isn't it unethical now?

And did I read again that health premiums were going up 15-35%? The whole media frenzy demanding ObamaCare was that health premium went up each year. That 15-35% is much, much higher than the worst years prior to ObamaCare.

My alternative to ObamaCare: go back to what we had.

It provided the best medical care in the world, the world came here for care, and those who couldn't afford it were still taken care of through good Samaritan attitudes and laws.

It was better than this by far....and apparently CHEAPER by far.

Time for a plug.

Folks...if you’re getting screwed by obiecare or know someone who is, then you owe it to yourself to check out the health sharing ministries. They cost about half of what a comparable policy would cost, are based on Biblical cost sharing principles, and are EXEMPT from the obiecare penalties.

Do it one better. Go through the health sharing ministries and pay dramatically less. Pocket the difference.

Looked up the concept. Interesting. I know nothing about these, but if it works it’s certainly something worth looking at.
