Greeks were hoarding cash and food Saturday amid mounting fears the economy could collapse, cracking open their wallets only to stock up on essentials and stripping supermarket shelves in the process.

I suspect that a lot of people are in pretty good shape with supplies and stash for purchasing things or barter, but when a crisis seems eminent, you grab what you can. Example....people with 3/4 of a tank of gas will top off the tank, people with plenty of food and supplies will get some more to keep them out of those supplies as long as possible.
“may be stuck in the ‘burbs - we shelter-in-place, and wait for the first wave to dissipate.”
You are exactly right.
Thanks for the Mormon link. I clicked around and discovered that I’m a mere 12 minutes away from a storage center and could get they by bus if need be. Will check it out next week.
I stocked up on grease, just in case
LOL
That’s the goal. I want as many decent people as possible armed, clean, and well-fed in the unlikely event that foreign or domestic enemies take over our government.
Unlikely event?
Only met a few handful of Mormons and all of them were great people.
I don’t even begin to understand LDS but have to give them props of preparedness as well.
Those shoppers shouldn’t be standing in the aisles but rushing through stocking up as quickly as possible before the people in front of them deplete the shelves.
“They have a 25 year shelf life which is more than I have.”

And believe me, orthodox churches all over the world are madly collecting donations.
OK, Newbie; you’re in. Anyone that makes a ‘Simpson’ reference upon joining usually works out. ;)
When and if it happens to us, we are on our own. IMO. The world loves Greece. They mostly hate us.

I just remembered a story about Greece and needing food right after WWII.
One of my professors had been a bomber pilot and Army Col during and shortly after WWII.
He said that when he was in Norfolk, VA just after the war, there was a restaurant they all liked to eat at because they served the best steaks one could imagine.
During that time, a Greek ship which was carrying food to Greece because they were basically starving, got into trouble.
The ship was caught emptying it’s bilges while in harbor and Norfolk fined the owner something like $100,000. Well that ships owner could not pay the fine and the ship was impounded.
To everyone’s surprise the owner of that restaurant paid the fine. He wanted the food to get to Greece that bad.
You can order online at store.lds org. Then you click self reliance. Their prices are very good on basic needs and they ship free and no taxes.
