1. Slavery in America was established first and foremost as an independent source of revenue dedicated to the Crown. Parliament did not have to appropriate annual funds from a tax on slaves; they went straight to the monarch.
Virginia pleaded early on for the abolition of slavery to obvious no avail.
2. A western power was going to dominate North America. The choices were Great Britain, France, Spain, the US or Russia. I’m glad it is us.
3. Lacking class structure, we could not be integrated into the Brit system. It was Brit efforts to impose artificial commons, lords and royal governors in almost every colony that helped precipitate our Revolution
Give me ten minutes on live TV with that twit Dylan.
He looks like the Obamacare pajama boy’s “significant other”.
I puke at his words. I puke at the sight of him.
He’s a walking puke magnet. I wish someone would puke in his face. On camera.
Thanks for the visual.
When I first saw the article I wondered what kind of American could write such a thing.
I should have known it was an Ivy League educated, bowtie wearing nerd with mother issues.
What a dork.
I suppose he has a point. We wouldn’t have wasted 225 years getting back to tyranny...we were already there.
The Wankerblog is more like it.
Former president Carter said basically the same thing and pointed out that both Canada and Australia gained their independence without a war with England. He forgets that they’re still in the Commonwealth with somewhat filial (family relationship) ties to England/UK.
And we would all be able to see through a keyhole with both eyes at the same time!! (If you doubt that, check out Prince Charles)
Dude, you just ruined your whole argument. Just like that. Gridlock is good for preventing tyranny.
Yes.
Yes, at the time. But Canada’s First Nations aren’t in a whole lot better shape than our Indians.
Highly debatable. Though I suggest there are much worse fates than being a really large Canada or Oz.
Parliamentary government is far better. IF you want a government that “runs the country.”
Our system was designed for a limited government. It just doesn’t work at all well for the present overweening federal government.
Many things would have likely been different. You could make a good argument that British North America would have remained restricted to the eastern seaboard and Canada. The Louisiana purchase would never have occurred. Alaska would have remained part of Russia.
It’s even conceivable that the British wouldn’t have abolished slavery as early as they did if the southern colonies were still part of their empire, given how economically dependent the south was on slavery. There likely would have been much resistance in the South. Maybe they would have chosen that time as a time to break free from Britain. Perhaps the British would have abolished slavery at home but allowed it to continue in the South. Who knows? Certainly not this guy.
I wish that just once, one of the brainless little retards would touch on “the rest of the story” and discuss how the Spaniards wiped out “ da native Americans” in Mexico, Central and South America and give their constant AMERICA trashing a rest.
You want to know where they get this from?
Read “ Communist Goals” as entered into the Congressional Record. That’s all you need
Why does anyone care what this high school twit thinks?
It’s bad comedy.
May your chains rest lightly upon you
If you love wealth more than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, depart from us in peace. We ask not your counsel nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you. May your chains rest lightly upon you and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.
- Samuel Adams
Following independence, Adams was one of the founders opposed to the proposed federal government. Adams was an`anti-federalist.’
He and others thought that with a strong central government we would sooner or later replace one foreign tyrant with several hundred/thousand domestic ones.
About sixty years later, half the country agreed with him.
Over two hundred years later: hey, enjoy those fireworks.
1) Americans are unworthy of self-governance
2) Socialism wins the hearts of ignoramuses
3) The color of your skin trumps the content of your character
I’m sure this jerk also thinks impeaching Obama would be a bad idea because Biden might be worse (actually I’m sure he loves Obama, but you get the point). Apparantly the founders should have put up the tyranny they were facing because in the long run, Dylan Mathews would have assured them, things would be better down the road if they did.
We are citizens who choose our representative government, and they are subjects.
I’d settle for a popularily elected Senator and one appointed by the State Legislatures.
