Hispanic leaders say Republican Party must condemn Trump

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Hispanic leaders are warning of harm to Republican White House hopes unless the party's presidential contenders do more to condemn Donald Trump, a businessman turned presidential candidate who's refusing to apologize for calling Mexican immigrants rapists and drug dealers.

Trump's comments, delivered in his announcement speech last month, have haunted the GOP for much of the last two weeks and dominated Spanish-language media. It's bad timing for a Republican Party that has invested significantly in Hispanic outreach in recent years, given the surging influence of the minority vote.

Yet several Republican candidates have avoided the issue altogether, while those who have weighed in have declined to criticize Trump as strongly as many Hispanic leaders would like.

"The time has come for the candidates to distance themselves from Trump and call his comments what they are: ludicrous, baseless and insulting," said Alfonso Aguilar, a Republican who leads the American Principles Project's Latino Partnership. "Sadly, it hurts the party with Hispanic voters. It's a level of idiocy I haven't seen in a long time."

The political and practical Trump-related fallout has intensified in recent days.

“”After all, illegals are all really nice people. It says so on their stamped visas and passports.””

Well, it might if they had ANY!

This is how the fascist left operates. Demand that the other side give up their right to free speech.

They are never going to vote for a Republican anyway, ignore them and tell the truth.

Why waste time catering to the ones that support illegals anyway?

Precisely. I think that many mexicans, especially illegal mexicans, fled their cesspool of a country not because they hate socialism, but because the totally corrupt government is keeping for themselves too much of the largesse forcibly extracted from the people who work. Seeing that America is rapidly devolving into socialism you'd think the illegal mexicans would celebrate their illegally-obtained opportunity. Problem is, America is not moving fast enough into socialism and the illegal mexicans are frustrated even though they have more benefits here (none of which they deserve or have earned) than they did in the mexican cesspool.

Never mind that it's the friggin' truth, Alfonso.

Nevertheless, I'd imagine that most legal Hispanics are pretty much in agreement with Trump. They're not in favor of illegals competing for their jobs and they are aware -- perhaps acutely aware -- of the criminal streak in the illegal population.

Trump's comments may have insulted the illegals, but it might have rung true among the legals.

You are right. Many Hispanics came here legally and don’t want illegals taking their jobs. These leftist groups are painting all Hispanics with a broad brush. Just what they are accusing Trump of doing.
