Webb represents an almost extinct type of Democrat: a liberal rather than a radical. He has more in common with Democrats like Harry Truman, Hubert Humphrey, and Tip O'Neill than with Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama. He isn't a conservative by any stretch, but he is a throwback to the days when Democrats were a sane opposition as opposed to subversive enemies.
If this election is all about this country being governed by the lesser evil, I’d take Webb over the rest of the Democrat pack anytime.
One thing in Webb’s favor is that unlike other Democrats (and many Republicans), he doesn’t feel the need to grovel before “minorities” on account of his heritage, he takes pride in it. He used to strongly oppose affirmative action and illegal immigration, not sure where he currently stands on those issues.
He has “evolved” on gay marriage. Need you ask for anything more?
He is from Virginia, he is trying to get the Southern vote.
(For the first time in history, there are more people running for president than there are voters -- unless you count all those voters who are no longer alive, but who continue to faithfully execute their civic duty to vote, year after year, and you also count -- in advance -- the hordes of Mexican voters who have not yet had the opportunity to sneak across the border.)
He’s also the guy that I believe scubbed John F’n Kerry’s service record of the charges that were made against him for schmoozing with the Chinese during the tail end of the war while still a reserve officer.
