Former Virginia Sen. Jim Webb announced in an email Thursday that he will seek the Democratic nomination for president.

"I understand the odds, particularly in today's political climate where fair debate is so often drowned out by huge sums of money," Webb said in the email.

"But our country needs a fresh approach to solving the problems that confront us and too often unnecessarily divide us," he added.

For those who don’t know or remember Jim Webb, He served as a United States Senator from Virginia, Secretary of the Navy under Reagan, Assistant Secretary of Defense, again under Reagan, congressional staffer, and Marine Corps officer. In the private sector he has been an Emmy-award winning journalist, a filmmaker, and the author of ten books.

He is 69 years old.

I’m sure he figures that with Hillary tanking and the only other competition being an 85 year old socialist, the field is pretty wide open.

And what difference, Mr. Webb, do you offer? Are you only communist-lite?

Too much of a hothead (the Scots-Irish in ‘im) and older than PIAPS...but if the ‘RATS had any smarts - which they don’t - they’d nominate him. Instead, the one out of the closet Commie in the ‘RAT race, Bernie Sanders, is gonna be HRH’s competition.

Is he looking for a gig on cable news? Soon he can call himself “former presidential candidate” and make the big bucks.

RE: And what difference, Mr. Webb, do you offer?

One thing I notice is — this man is NOT politically correct and has shown himself not to be swayed by the feelings of the moment.

Witness his defense of the South’s right to fly the Confederate Flag.

This can be a good or bad thing.

Good if you stick to your principles ( as long as your principles are good for the country ).

Bad if you stick to your principles ( and they are a disaster ).

Hell, I might as well run ... you too. Nobody has heard of either of us, but that doesn’t matter in this race.

Yes if my memory serves me correctly he was what I remembered as a old-school democrat and not a hard-core leftist. Maybe he has evolved or my memory is faulty.

Ironically Jim Webb is the only politician too challenge the Confederate flag lynch mob.

He's to the right of Stalin, so he does not stand a chance of getting the RAT nomination.

I'd vote for him over half of the Republican field.

Webb is probably more conservative than Jeb.

Webb has joined Rick Perry in emphasizing his status as a military veteran.

No surprise here. Several Democrats were saying this already last year, believe he has a much better chance than Hillary even though one of his novels has been criticized for being “child porn.”
