Donald Trump Asks CNN’s Don Lemon: ‘Who is Doing the Raping?’
The Wrap ^ | 7/1/15 | Debbie Emery

Posted on 07/02/2015 4:58:11 AM PDT by jimbo123

Following a week of controversial firings by everyone from NBC and Universal to Macy’s, Donald Trump appeared on “CNN Tonight” Wednesday and defended the comments that sparked the current racial firestorm.

Host Don Lemon suggested that Trump had misunderstood some of the articles he read on Fusion or the Huffington Post about Mexican immigrants, telling the presidential candidate: “That is about women being raped, it is not about criminals coming across the border and entering the country.”

“Somebody is doing the raping, Don. Are you saying its women being raped. Who is doing the raping?” Trump bluntly asked, referring to a 2014 Fusion article reporting that 80 percent of Central American migrants passing through Mexico are raped. “You have to stop illegal immigration coming through the border. If you don’t, you don’t have a country.”

Earlier in the interview, the TV mogul declared his love for the Mexican people — despite his declaration speech last week that slammed the country and said they sent over rapists, drug-runners and criminals. “I love the Mexican people. I’ve had a great relationship with Mexico,” Trump told Lemon.

“I am talking about illegal immigration, because it has to be stopped. It is killing our country. People are pouring over the borders. I guess some come from Mexico but they come from all over the world. They come from the Middle East, we don’t even know where they come from,” he marveled.

Looking dumbfounded, Lemon asked: “Why did you have to say they were rapists?”

Sounds to me like he just dropped a truth bomb right into the war on women.

The notion of whether it ever happens, and the other notion of whether it’s the proper emphasis of the bigger issue, are not the same thing.

Sorry that is so hard to grasp.

I disagree. For those vulnerable girls it's a real issue they'll NEVER recover from. From a practical standpoint, rates become pregnancies become births and dream baby citizens.

Don't you find it disgustingly hypocritical that the elite who are destroying this country will arrest parents for letting their children walk to a playground alone but think it's okay that these young vulnerable women suffer such atrocities?

We’ve fallen for another Media/GOPe trick. In his original statement, Trump reeled off a whole laundry list of various types of felons coming across the border, including a few harmless people seeking work and a livelihood. The Media, and then GOPe grabbed one word, “rapists”, and flogged that one word as though that was all Trump had said. They’ve even got him defending that one word.

only if it can be backed up.....and only if he connects the dots.....which I predict he will not do.

You gotta remember, until 2009, he was all happy with the war on women meme, and just about everything else liberals were yapping about.

“Is that our big problem with illegal immigration, rape? Really? Seriously?

One of the myriad of problems with illegal entrants.

Yes. That’s just one of them. The victimization of illegals being brought into the contry by those bringing them.
The vehicular homicides done by drunk illegals. The high percentage of violent crime and non violent crime done by illegal aliens that would stay in their own country if they weren’t here.
You name a crime, and many, but not all, are doing it.
More criminal activity is something that we don’t need and should be left on the other side of the border. We have enough of a home grown criminal problem.

Another point. It’s a very important women’s issue. It can win a lot of the women’s vote over to Trump or any other Republican who has the courage to say the open border is a direct cause of sexual abuse of woman. “how many” is a disgusting argument. Even one rape of a vulnerable woman is too many!

I don’t accept your premise totally, though I know crime is a big issue....taking on the crime would be fine....naming rape is not a smart political strategy, for among other reasons, it’s only a small percentage of the crimes.

I think the alcohol related vehicle deaths would be a far more statistically significant crime. This is not smart strategy is all I’m saying.

That is true, but not my point at all. That doesn't make it a big issue. That doesn't make it smart politics. That sounds like Bill Clinton's "even one starving child is too many" as a way to encumber 300 million with more taxes. Very liberal avenue of attack you have taken.

And if you think this will switch a single liberal or moderate woman to the GOP, you're naive.

Maybe you're out of touch with women. Granted, there are some who will follow hillary to the gates of hell. But there are many who are fed up with her brand of women's lib which involves total corruption, job ineptitude that has caused death, and accepting her husband's weaknesses as part of her ambitions.

Then there's younger women (under age 40 or so) in their young 20s or younger when Clinton completed his two terms. They don't have that strong bond to the Clintons. And they see Trump as a man whose daughter succeeds in an effective way on her own merits in his business. And they see Trump giving women and minorities a fair chance in the game on Apprentice.

I think just the opposite of you. Women admire a strong-willed successful man who respects and encourages women to reach their potential. I'd wager it will be a surprise, how well Trump can do with women.

According to the article he cited, 80% of illegal alien women who come from Central America through Mexico into the United States are raped on the journey. 80% is a quite substantial number.

This level of criminality and barbarism committed by those who facilitate the transport of illegal aliens (it used to be called ‘human smuggling’) needs to be addressed. These smugglers are almost exclusively from Mexico and they can enter and leave the United States at will.

I would never vote for Trump for President, we just disagree on way too many policy positions, but I love how he doesn’t back down and he aggressively goes after the press.

Pretty easy to see “who’s doing the raping” from the DOJ crime stats.

But reporting those stats would be “racist”.

you still didn’t make the case that this particular Trump strategy will do that. You have some factoids, but your dot connection is flawed.....you try and cross several “bridges too far” in your nice little equation.
