House conservatives emboldened

A critical bloc of House conservatives has been invigorated by its victory over GOP leaders, who caved in a high-profile fight over a punished subcommittee chairman.

The reinstatement of Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) is a small win for the months-old Freedom Caucus. But it could have broader implications when House Republicans pick a new leadership team after the 2016 elections.

While Freedom Caucus founders insist they aren't focused on next year’s contests, the cluster of about 50 conservative rebels is gaining clout in the conference and will surely have a role to play if there's a choice presented to members. House Republicans are heavily favored to keep their majority given their 246-188 advantage over Democrats, and many believe the next election could serve as a chance to elect more conservative leaders — including a new Speaker.

Rep. John Boehner (R-Ohio) has held the top job since 2011 and says he’s running for a fourth term, but he’s seen a rising number of conservatives defy him in public leadership votes.

And if Boehner calls it quits, his top lieutenants — Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) and Conference Chairwoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.) — could face challenges from the right as they seek to move up the leadership ladder.

There is no doubt replacing the GOP currently poor leadership is needed. Lets all hope they pick some REAL conservative leaders instead of the losers they now have in place.

“Lets all hope they pick some REAL conservative leaders instead of the losers they now have in place.”

The question is, how many conservatives are serving in Congress who haven’t been compromised by sex, money, or some behavior in their past? Government agencies, media outlets, and opposition groups hold files on every Congressman waiting for the right time to release the information and do the maximum damage.

We seem to be facing Abraham’s dilemma pleading with the angel sent to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah. How many righteous men actually work inside the US Capitol? Are there enough righteous men and women to replace the leadership? Will the wicked in the majority choose from a small number of righteous people, much less follow their leadership?

Maybe, just maybe, the example of Trump demonstrates to them how to stand up strong and speak loudly and non-stop for what they believe. Otherwise, they're part of the problem.

NO MORE DEALS WITH THE DEVIL !! And that includes Boehner and McDonnell.

We're in a war for our national identity and very survival and the only people not fighting it are law-abiding moral US citizens!

Are they emboldened enough that they are going to lay down again a vote for Boehnor like Jordan did last time?

It’s not like he or his behavior is any different from before.

More theatre from the GOP lemmings. Let me know if they actually do something as opposed to just running their mouths.

from the article:

"....Over the course of several discussions, including a late-night meeting in the basement of Capitol Hill’s Tortilla Coast restaurant, Jordan and other caucus members hatched a plan: Call a closed-door, members-only meeting of the Oversight Committee, and demand that Chaffetz reinstate Meadows. Otherwise the subcommittee on government reform would remain leaderless, Freedom members said...."

I did not know the back story on Chafetz's change of "heart." Makes me feel all warm & fuzzy. :)

Wouldn't you like to have been part of NSA to hear the conversation between Chafetz and Boehner? It's not over, though. Boehner will try to extract blood.

Considering how often it’s used for “secret meetings”, I wonder how many different entities have the basement room at Tortilla Coast bugged?

That horse is not only out the barn door, it’s over the fence, down the road, and halfway into the next county.
