Going with the Flow ... Mark Steyn
Steyn Online ^ | 2 July 2015 | Mark Steyn

Posted on 07/02/2015 12:28:33 AM PDT by Rummyfan

I started the day on Bill Bennett's radio show, which is always fun. Jonah Goldberg was on before me, and advanced the proposition, after the Supreme Court's almighty constitutional bender last week, that it wasn't so bad; conservatives who just pottered around in their own world and tended to their families would still be able to lead lives largely unbattered by the forces of "progress". A few minutes later, one of Bill's listeners, Claudine, came on and said that's what Germans reckoned in the 1930s: just keep your head down and the storm will pass. How'd that work out?

Claudine had the better of the argument, I think. Most of us are not cut out to swim against the tide. For one thing, it's exhausting. Tides ebb and flow, and it's easier just to go with it. In Germany, maybe if your very best pal was Jewish, you'd say something. But, if it's just the greengrocer or the elderly couple in the second-floor flat that you nod to on the stairs, do you really want to make a fuss and have arguments with your family and friends all the time? Isn't it easier just to say nothing?

In the end, most people want to be like most people. That's why they tell you the weekend movie grosses on the Monday morning news and put the Top Ten bestsellers at the front of Barnes & Noble - so that you can like what everybody else likes.

So I find the idea that tens of millions of American "traditionalist" conservatives are going to lead their own lives immune to the broader culture somewhat unlikely. Were the same-sex marriage decision, for example, merely a judicial ruling, Barack Obama would not have lit up the White House in LGBT rainbow colors.

There is a leader. Jesus Christ.

We either follow Him or we will be doomed.

Those that are consumed with sin will be miserable.

“Why did God make you?” The answer: “God made me to know him, to love him, and to serve him in this world and to be happy with him forever in the next.” Here, in just 26 words, is the whole reason for our existence. Jesus answered the question even more briefly: “I came so that [you] might have life and have it more abundantly” (John 10:10).

Jonah Goldberg said this.

One of leftist leaning O'Reilly's mentors. Makes sense, he likes to impress the O'Fracture narcissist as he has the MOST popular show on Fox News.

Heh, seeing his name always makes me think of his mother with that cigarette holder hanging out of her mouth like Cruella De Vil

Jonah Goldberg said this.

JONAH GOLDBERG.

Okay, so you're mad. Is he wrong, though? And if he's wrong to say that, is he wrong because that's not what will happen or because he shouldn't have said it? If you can engage with him and show him where he's wrong maybe he'll learn.

Thanks for that link. I had never heard of Patti Stanger.

From the comments on one of her YouTube videos, she does seem to be competent at "competing for the space where people actually live." However, as someone who "loves Hillary" and refuses to endorse Republicans over Democrats, Stanger does not appear to be a good advocate for the many aspects of conservatism beyond sexual conservatism.

She's still much better than nothing.

I am afraid that is true.

This crud has completely damaged Europe and since our regime sees Europe as the model, the fungus has come here, but it’s not all that’s coming.

So yes, discouraged is what I felt when Obama was elected to a second term.

I no longer feel discouraged, I’m just pissed and I’m sorry for what our offspring and their children will have left to be proud of. They won’t even know what it felt like.

She's still much better than nothing.

After looking at her in a YouTube video, I retract that statement. I don't know enough about her to approve or disapprove of her.

Our nation's government owned and run K-12 socialist-entitlement schools were a progressive idea from the beginning.

Banning God and the Commandments has always been the plan.

Solution: Ban the government's K-12 socialist-entitlement, price-fixed, cartel, and godless schools.

When it **really*** mattered Mark Steyn could have stood up for the Constitution. Instead, he called the requirement of natural born citizenship for the President a mere “technicality”.

Who is he to tell me to stand up for truth and light when he failed to do it when it was most critical.

I will never forgive these yappers. **Never***!

That's how effective Big Gay is: They took "the good guys", and made 'em the bad guys, in nothing flat.

In a deranged culture where the Stalinist blood lust of political correctness is so insatiable that a hit TV show has to be yanked from the airwaves because of the roof of a motor vehicle driven by the characters, how many networks will be willing to countenance anyone espousing "traditional" theology or morality?

...that long march through the institutions... turned out to be not that long after all. If it's too much to expect a Supreme Court justice to stand against "Modern Family", why should anybody else?

Exactly.

Kristallnacht is coming soon and Christians are the new Jews.

Yes, I like Steyn’s writing, but he’s great at pointing out dire futures without having any concrete solutions. Perhaps there are none.

Those of us in small businesses will be the first targeted.

From the responses I have seen on this board we will be told to submit, we will be given advice on how to weasel around the law. We have only a few who will stand strong with us.
