U.S. Secret Service and the National Park Service mounted the "removable anti-climb feature" this afternoon, but the entire installation process will take six weeks. Designed by Rock Island Arsenal Joint Manufacturing and Technology Center, the metal spikes installed today are only a temporary and will be replaced once a long-term solution is implemented, officials said.
The Commission of Fine Arts and National Capital Planning Commission will approve a final design in the fall and construction on a permanent security enhancement is set to begin in 2016. The renovation comes nearly 10 months after Omar Gonzalez scaled the White House fence, sprinted across the North Lawn and entered the White House.
Some semblance of a White House fence dates back to Thomas Jeffersons presidency. Around 1801, Jefferson built the first post and rail fence around the White House, according to the White House Historical Association.
The second wrought-iron railing in the 1818 pen-and-ink drawing below stood on the north side of the White House until 1902.

When are they going to install a moat?
This nation is a fricking joke. I'm not even celebrating July 4th as I always do. I'm going to simply curl up with a case of beer.
Fences work at the White House but not at the US-Mexico border? The usual Washingtoon DC hypocrisy and lies.
Too bad the rest of us don’t matter.

Don’t forget all the ‘conservatives’ here that argue regularly that we can’t/shouldn’t build a fence because they ‘don’t work’.
I was going to post exactly what you said.
Why do fences work at the White House, but not at the border?
The thin skinned one is certainly scared...
can you imagine what his home will look like once he is out of office...
Interesting. I always thought that the president should be accessible and not surrounded by his gangsters and thugs and acting so imperial.
Seems as though this has been happening since Clinton.
So fences don’t work at the border, but they do work (1) at the White House and (2) on the Mall to keep U.S. Veterans away from war memorials during budget tantrums.
(The dude in the pitcha, not you, Joe.)
Might some day there be a security measure at the white hut to remove all nearby lampposts?
Throw a piece of old, heavy duty carpet over those and you’re in free.
but no fence on the border
