The F-16 is a badass plane. But even though it won in this dogfight test, the F-35 can do so much more.

The designer of the F-16 explains why the F-35 is such a crappy plane

My friends in the avionics business who worked on the F-16 said that their competitors working on the F-15 referred to the F-16 as a “disposable lawn dart”. Meanwhile it turned out to be a great plane and a great value.

The F-35 is the replacement for the F117 stealth fighter, not the F-16

The F-35 was at a distinct energy disadvantage

Now that's kinda funny....and not surprising..

Engineers, given enough time, will put so many little changes in prototype during the initial build, that the engine they chose initially to power it is now too small.

I have no experience in aircraft, but I do in boats and ships, and I see the same thing in all sorts of construction and design.

Looks like they will have a variant before the plane is widely distributed.

Ridiculous title. The F-35 was never meant to be a dog fighter.

It also depends on the pilot. If you or I were flying the F35, we couldn’t get the engine started. Pilot skill will determine a dogfight winner almost every time.

The person who leaked the FOUO report is in trouble...or is this person going to be viewed as another “hero whistleblower”?

Although designated as a “F” for fighter, it was designed as a STRIKE aircraft...so there’s that.

There’s also the old adage that in modern combat, if you get yourself into a dogfight, you’re doing it wrong.

I still fondly recall all of the purported aviation “experts” denigrating the F117 because it couldn’t dogfight...

FTA: ...within a few decades, American and allied aviators will fly into battle in an inferior fighter .... It is flying now and is inferior now.

The F-35 is another example of Pentagon whiz kids trying to come up with one plane to do everything. The F-111 is a good example of this mindset. While it was a capable aircraft it never really lived up to expectations.
