I used to hate it when I’d pop over the border to buy beer in anticipation of July 4th, only to find out the Brewers Retail was closed. But I learned.

Actually, if you were close enough to cross over into Quebec (as opposed to Ontario), you probably would have been able to buy the beer at a corner store (depanneur in local parlance) that most likely would have been open July 1, lol. For years, there has been a movement to allow this in Ontario as well but predictably of course has been shot down by the Beer Store employees’ union, among others. There is now the idea to allow beer and wine in grocery and a few specialty stores, but that is about it for now. Out of curiosity, can you buy beer in grocery and corner stores in your locale?
