SALT LAKE CITY — A Utah man who reported someone beat him and carved a homophobic slur into his arm staged the attacks, authorities said Tuesday.
Millard County Sheriff Robert Dekker said Rick Jones, 21, could face charges after officers investigating the series of reported attacks found inconsistencies in the evidence. The Delta man eventually acknowledged faking the harassment, Dekker said.
An attorney for Jones said the reports were a cry for help initially directed toward people close to him, and Jones didn’t realize how much attention they would get.
Really, someone who could carve a message in an arm would probably think nothing of killing said person just to get rid of the witness.

Funny how these folks always seem to be self haters. I believe that he now needs to be charged wit the hate crime he would have allowed some innocent person to be charged with.

Yes, sure there are some, though I think it was much more prevalent years ago than it is today.
For example, I was reading about a case in Australia years ago, a serial murder case, where the killer had actually achieved some local celebrity before his spree because he rescued a homosexual that was thrown off a bridge from drowning (another was also thrown off and he drowned). The attackers were supposedly police officers who went down to the area where homosexuals were “cruising” and did this regularly.
