For many Americans, the Confederate battle flag is an unmistakable symbol of slavery and oppression.

But for Karen Cooper, a black woman who was born in New York but later settled in Virginia, the flag embodies something else entirely.

“I actually think that it represents freedom,” the ardent tea party supporter says in a video interview that’s been making the rounds online. “It represents a people who stood up to tyranny.”

True. It DOES represent the stand against tyranny.

Amongst other things.

“It represents a people who stood up to tyranny.”

She's right, in that the Union victory established the federal tyranny over the states.

The flag represents rebellious behavior to unwarranted authority.

That’s why fedzilla is pulling out all the stops to remove it and every other rebellious symbol from our country.

Make no mistake. They are terrified of WE THE PEOPLE now. That doesn’t bode well for us since we all know what happens when governments feel threatened by their people.

It does symbolize Rebellion. But so does this one.

Less distractions with this one.

Great; here comes the neo-Confederate stuff. If anyone established a tyranny over any part of the Union via DC, it was the Democrats.

Don't forget that most of the descendants of slaves who came to America did so because Obama's ancestors offered their ancestors the Hobson's choice between captivity and death.

The government is terrified of WTP? They’ve just run us over, thrown us under the bus, ignored our founding documents, raised our taxes, unleashed criminal rat voters into our once safe neighborhoods.

I don’t think they are terrified of us. The GOP was supposed to right the wrongs after we gave them a landslide and instead they sold us out.

How the hell is she going to get any victim benefits with that attitude? Oh, wait, some people are too proud to want victim benefits.

As far as slavery being a choice is concerned, Frederick Douglass said much the same about slaves being held by their own ignorance and fear.

Here is a story told by a former slave who speaks of being stolen from one plantation and sold to another. She ran away and returned to the first plantation.

I like that one. I especially like this one personally:

The Betsy Ross flag is more familiar to the public and less associated with tainted goals. It does not have the emotional baggage of the Battle Flag, though slavery was practiced all throughout the colonies at the time.

The difference is, the Revolution didn't have massive numbers of biased historians and team cheerleaders changing the focus from Independence to one objectionable issue.

She also says the master taught the slaves to read and write, took them to church and gave them land of their own.

Great; here comes the neo-Confederate stuff. If anyone established a tyranny over any part of the Union via DC, it was the Democrats.

"You will find that all the arguments in favor of king-craft were of this class; they always bestrode the necks of the people, not that they wanted to do it, but because the people were better off for being ridden. That is their argument, and this argument of the Judge is the same old serpent that says you work and I eat, you toil and I will enjoy the fruits of it.
