Why did they have weapons...i think it go to the idea Jesus had a choice in the matter..that they could of stop it

John 19:10-11
“Why don't you talk to me?” Pilate demanded. “Don't you realize that I have the power to release you or crucify you?”

Then Jesus said,
“You would have no power over me at all unless it were given to you from above. So the one who handed me over to you has the greater sin.”

In addition it is assumed that prior to this time Jesus and his disciples did not need to be worried about robbers because of their notoriety. After Jesus was arrested an unarmed disciple would be a target. Carrying a weapon would ward off potential attackers.

Pope Francis says that it’s hypocritical to be a Christian and manufacture or invest in the manufacture of weapons.

So Christians shouldn't defend themselves? What a tool.

As a conservative Catholic, it is dismaying to witness a radical Jesuit Argentine Marxist appointed to the Holy See.

Responsibility lies with the former Pope, who was smarter than his successor, but was not able to convince his Cardinals to take greater care in finding his replacement.
