It’s very difficult today finding a church with a Pastor who isn’t in the entertainment industry....

I’ve moved many times in my life with the work I have done so I often had to locate a church for worship. I have noted over the past years so many have lost their focus and become cafe clutches with entertainment venues replacing solid teaching.... And Pastors barely touch on the Salvation message to any degree. It’s more a plug at the end of the show.

Our TLM pastor (on Long Island) was on fire, too. OUTSTANDING homily yesterday.

Regards,

PS: We also had a celebrity in our congregation. I’m not going to say who, but most people on here would know him. He was there with his wife and kids, and they didn’t just stumble into the TLM — his wife and daughters were wearing veils. I was glad to see that someone from Hollyweird takes his religion seriously.

Anyway, he picked a good day to visit us. Father was at his best yesterday.

It's definitely waking Pastors up....praying much for their leadership of the flocks they have charge over. I think we'll see a sifting as the truth rings out. For every one that leaves the church God will being in the many.

IF I walk into a church with rock band instruments in front, I’m already out the door. Visited one church where the band did all the ‘Jesus is my boyfriend” songs, some folks were drinking coffee and others decided to take off their shoes and wander around in the back yapping among themselves. I was appalled. So distracted I couldn’t even pay attention to the sermon. I literally RAN out after it was over. gah!

The late, wonderful David Wilkerson touched upon what you speak of, about entertainment in the church, here. I listen to this snippet of his longer message by the same name every so often. It just helps brings things back in perspective for me. May it bless you, too.

His preaching is like the revival services that once shook England....full of Passion and conviction. We’re going to need these types of Pastors as they are gifted to speak strong enough over the dead minds that are out there today sufficient to get their attention.

You know, I was speaking to a friend earlier who said that, as things progress here in this country with the loss of liberties for the church, we probably are going to move “underground,” and rather than actual pastors there will be lay people. But still, a good shepherd that the Good Shepherd places over a flock, if he is truly in the Word and led by the Spirit, can be of true encouragement and exhortation in these trying times.

Thank you for your reply! And sorry I didn’t answer sooner. May the Lord bless you!

....”My pastor wanted a show hands of who would visit him in prison when the persecution begins.”....

I think this was much common among Pastors as they understand what could very well be ahead for them.....important then that people stay close to God’s word.

Praying for them much these days now...that they will stand firm.

“Nothing. Had a lesson on arrogance and pride and being prepared for church. He said we need to be weaned from him and we need to be able to read and study the Bible without him or anyone. It was based on Psalm 131”

Perhaps the arrogance and pride relates to the U.S. and the court. And pride also with Gay Pride.

And to be weaned from the preacher - may mean he is preparing for the day when he’s in prison.

That’s pretty much what I do....I shared here that over Christmas I visited a service that you could not hear over the band...smoke rolling across the stage and the “performers” were jumping up and down like rock bands do. It was awful! There was nothing “Holy or Silent” about that Christmas Eve service I tell ya!!! It was so edgy I could not wait to leave!

Good on you for leaving...

I did that once in a church where Missionaries were calling Islamists....”freedom fighters”.....and “conditioning the people to accept other cultures.

He was happy and upbeat, but very emphatic about us studying the Bible on our own.

I actually liked that he was upbeat and positive, and we didn’t talk about it.

It was actually just good to be in the word with fellow believers.

My pastor didn’t mention the Supreme Court, in his sermon. He thinks that pastors shouldn’t mention any political issues, in sermons.

So I did meet with her, and it turns out that she’s on the same page as me. She does not support gay marriage and would not perform same-sex ceremonies. However, she explained that the members of the church are divided. In fact, when I arrived to meet with her, there were a group of members meeting in another room in support of gay marriage. So she explained that some members feel as we do, totally against it. Another group is wishy-washy and feel that, while they don’t agree with it, people should be able to do what they want. The other side are the people who support it. So she feels that she has to be careful in what she says from the pulpit so as not to ignite a keg of dynamite.

She knows, though, that ultimately, both she and the denomination are going to have to be clear about what they believe. As it is now in the church, gay people are allowed to serve in leadership roles, which she said she had a problem with, but took the job nonetheless. So it’s a very touchy and difficult problem. I told her that if the leadership decides to affirm gay marriage that I would leave, and she said she may well do the same. Right now she’s open to hearing the arguments of the other side, but has not been convinced yet.

Oh, and as it turns out, the woman I thought was celebrating the SCOTUS decision was not. She was trying to say that it was a historic week, but was not happy about it - she evidently called the pastor to apologize for not being clear about what she was saying. Apparently other people were upset, because the pastor was in the process of answering an email similar to mine when I walked in.

We talked about the way to respond as a Christian, and decided that it has to be in love and respect, but not comprising our beliefs. We’ll see how this all falls out. Clearly, we’re not alone.

“We stay out of politics.”

Like those churches where people used to plug their ears and sing louder so they couldn’t hear the Jews screaming in the boxcars going by? That kind of “politics”?

“Politics” is if the preacher says, “Vote for my brother-in-law for Mayor!” It isn’t when the preacher denounces CRIME being committed by people in public offices.

Hello, brother! There's only a nickel's worth of difference between our Synods. It's good to hear from another ultra conservative. God's blessings to you!

lol...Joel Olstean...is nothing more than 'a motivational speaker' cloaking what he says with Christian Verbiage. He's one of the many faces of the Emerging Church Movement....it pays well.
