Meaning of ‘one nation under God’ died with decision
The Boston Herald ^ | June 28, 2015 | Joe Fitzgerald

Nearly 60 years have passed since that wintry night in Iowa when three of rock and roll’s biggest stars perished in the crash of a small plane, moving songwriter Don McLean to pen words that haunt listeners even now: “The day the music died.”

Perhaps there’s a patriotic lyricist somewhere out there already pouring his or her heart into expressing a similar feeling of forlornness because something surely died yesterday, something of inherent significance in the turbulent history of this country that continues to insist it’s “one nation under God.”

How can we make that claim while casting aside beliefs and understandings that have informed this nation’s character from the days of our founding?

What’s God got to do with?

At one time He had a lot to do with the daily affairs of America.

But, oh, how we have drifted.

He’s mainly on call for emergencies now.

And He’s good to have on your side in an argument, as President Obama demonstrated yesterday in South Carolina, trolling for easy applause by telling the congregation at Pastor Clementa Pinckney’s funeral that the Confederate flag must come down.

“By taking down that flag,” he declared, “we express God’s grace.”

Really? Don’t we do the same thing by honoring what He ordained a marriage to be, a union of one man and one woman in which “the two become as one”?

The U.S. Supreme Court, which opens every session with “God bless this Supreme Court,” is eager to accept His blessings, as long as He understands that it will have the final word on marriage, thank you.

Our would-be leaders are pathetic.

It’s like Hillary Clinton. Formerly opposed to gay marriage, she rushed to the head of the yesterday’s parade, desperately trying to take bows for a victory she once tried so hard to suppress.

Before Massachusetts Chief Justice Margaret Marshall summarily gave the green light to gay marriage here in 2003, all the gay community wanted were civil unions. But once that door was kicked open by judicial fiat, nothing less than “marriage” would do.

If you were against the idea, it meant you were impervious to teen suicides and consumed by hate. The ad hominem attacks were scurrilous but, as we saw yesterday, ultimately effective.

So now what? How about having two wives, or two husbands, or one of each? Who’s to tell anyone that he or she must curb an appetite?

Do your own thing! That’s what the Supreme Court said.

Something quintessentially American died yesterday.

And that’s not hateful. That’s the bitter truth.

I’m interested to know just what we will be celebrating this 4th of July. I don’t see much left. The flag my father taught me to revere and respect came to mean and stand for nothing that he believed in and fought for yesterday. I don’t think it represents my and my freedoms anymore either. It certainly doesn’t stand for My Almighty Creator or anything He stands for either.

I’m devastated, sad and angered for what has happened to the nation I love, but I don’t question the fact that The Almighty has control. His Will be done.

The only promise that Obama has really kept, “To fundamentally change America”

I remember when he said that, and I really had an awful feeling in the pit of my stomach, that it was a change we were not going to like. I am sure most of us did. We were right on the money. I hate his idea of change.

” Principled and moral people will not accept this outcome.”

I think the sad surprise for us will be just how few of those that are really left.

Add in the Senate vote to give away last vestiges of our sovereignty with the TPP and TPA trade votes, and you have a quadrafecta.

Our greatest recourse right now to avoid a potentially dark outcome, IMHO, is for those of us dedicated to a prayerful life, pray for another Great Awakening and mass conversions and repentance. I think Rev Graham’s daughter was calling for this. I ditto that.

The idea of this vast land mass with such a diverse being one nation is as abominable as the EU. U.S. was originally 13 states on the eastern seaboard. A nation this vast can only result in the disempowerment of the individual and the family.

We have had it too good for too long. America didn’t go through what Europe had to endure during WWI and WWII, so most are complacent. Nothing lasts forever, and our breakup is at hand.

The remedy for this broadmindedness is intolerance, not intolerance of persons, for of them we must be tolerant regardless of views they may hold, but intolerance of principles.

A bridge builder must be intolerant about the foundations of his bridge; the gardener must be intolerant about weeds in his gardens; the property owner must be intolerant about his claims to property; the soldier must be intolerant about his country, as against that of the enemy, and he who is broadminded on the battlefield is a coward and a traitor.

The doctor must be intolerant about disease in his patients, and the professor must be intolerant about error in his pupils. So, too, the Church, founded on the Intolerance of Divinity, must be equally intolerant about the truths commissioned to her.

There are to be no one-fisted battles, no half-drawn swords, no divided loves, no equalizing Christ and Buddha in a broad sweep of sophomoric tolerance or broad-mindedness, for as Our Blessed Lord has put it: “He that is not with Me is against Me.”

Exactly right. We like to blame leadership, but the people, little by little, choice by choice, by commission and omission, have gone far down the wide road.

Free Speech is used only as a cover for the vulgar and perverted.

Freedom of Religion is used as a cover to raise up Anything But Jesus.

As always, our adversary seeks to pervert and abuse and debase all good things, and we the people were seduced by the shiny things and the easy here and now.

We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge or gallantry would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution is designed only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate for any other.

This was our warning, which we have cast to the wind.

Conversely, Europe went through all that and still continued on the road away from God. It didn’t change them. We are repeating the same incremental, apathetic, feckless, and lazy choices.

What died was the fig leaf of the SCOTUS interpreting and abiding by the Constitution. The tyranny was open for all to see. And two terrible things were seen. The Marxists on the bench don’t give a damn about the constitution and never have, and there is essentially nothing short of Article V, we can do about it. And the SCOTUS knows it. In the majority, the people we elect who can correct this naked power grab, lie to us about their principles and beliefs without shame or conscience. Thus Congress is cowed and silent. I do not believe 0 will leave at the end of his term. He must be jealous of the court’s dictitorial power. Why should he leave? Because the Constitution says so? Bah, the court will do nothing if he stays and congress cannot do anything about it. The Democrats, who have never given a damn America and the Constitution, will protect 0 from impeachment in a block vote. So what will stop him from becoming our first individual dictator? Nothing! And that is what we have to fear.

Here is the letter I sent on the subject. Oh, I really like “One Nation in Defiance of God”.

Equal protection under the law now excludes tens of millions of Jewish, Christian and Muslim believers, who consider classical scholarship finds homosexual relationships separate people from God. The Old Testament, holy to “People of the Book”, speaks of the character, identity, and purpose of God in a manner, which continuously addresses homosexuality. God is identified as masculine and all humans as feminine in relation to Him. After creating all things, He created the single institution of heterosexual marriage to point to the love relationship He desires with humanity. For them any subsequent reasoning from scriptures must derive from that basic understanding.

Focusing on first principles regarding marriage renders irrelevant contrary arguments of fairness and tolerance, and pecuniary arguments regarding taxes and social welfare. The Fourteenth Amendment was not the primary concern, because Constitutionality could have been maintained through the elegant expressions, and endless tomes legislators luxuriate in creating on issues from plastic bags to healthcare.

A popular civil trend now erases foundational Constitutional principle and injects a crippling abscess into spiritual faith. These believers reside outside boundaries guaranteeing religious freedom to become guilty of cultural prejudice, and next to confront logics defining their beliefs as criminal.

Same sex marriage tears the spinal cord out of the desert religions. What remains is a gooey substitute for spiritual faith which can be layered onto any secular philosophy. People will either buy into this new normal or be unable to benefit from this redefinition of the First Amendment.
