Our letters policy on same-sex marriage - an explanation and an apology: John L. Micek

About 10 or 15 minutes after the U.S. Supreme Court handed down its 5-4 decision in Obergefell v. Hodges, which made gay marriage legal across the country, including the 13 states that up until now had banned it, a colleague of mine walked into the PennLive newsroom.

A smile lit up her face and there were tears in her eyes. Up until about 10 a.m. on Friday, my gay colleague sat on pins and needles, waiting to see if nine lawyers were about to throw the life and her and her partner into absolute upheaval.

We embraced and I offered my congratulations. And then I sat down and thought about what had just happened and what it meant to my other gay and lesbian colleagues who were rightfully celebrating Friday's ruling as a victory for both love and equal protection under the law.

And as the comments on our main story about the ruling -- many of them openly hostile -- began to pile up, I decided I wanted to send the strongest possible message that the Opinion pages of PennLive and The Patriot-News would be space for civil discussion of one of the most important civil rights rulings of our lifetime.

I came up with three sentences, which currently read like this:

Follow-up from yesterday. Looks like Johnny here got far more heat than he bargained for when he announced that the Harrisburg Patriot-News was going to shut down free speech over the SCOTUS ruling.

The bonehead editor tried to say he was fostering discussion!

He got called out on his fascism and now is trying to back up on it.

I guess this dingelheimer has just discovered that an arbitrary decision by six old pervs is one thing, but public opinion is quite another.

My thoughts exactly. Bet some of the advertisers weighed in on the situation.

If homosexuals only wanted to be left alone, which was what they claimed for a number of decades, for the sake of living a peace with my fellow citizens in a civil society, I could accept that.

But clearly, due to the nature of their sin, too many homosexuals feel they must secure my approval of their private sin. That is something that I and many Christians who follow God’s Word simple cannot ever give them. As a result, we will be hated by the Pink Swastika crowd. They will seek to grind us into dust, for they must destroy anyone who even remotely carries the germ of knowledge that something they take “pride” in is actually called an abomination by God.

Now we will quickly find that all the assurances the left made about sexual lifestyles are all lies. Bake the Cake or else!

Remember, this was the newspaper that exposed the pedophilia of Jerry Sandusky and the consequent coverup by the Penn State administration.

Obama and Hillary are saying the religious beliefs of Christians will have to be rewritten. They want to control what people are allowed to THINK!

So much for “being left alone”

Once pedophiles get their rights from the courts, this paper will stop reporting and comments on that too, I guess

By then it won’t even have a print edition probably

Clearly, they owe Jerry an apology so he won’t feel bad about their coverage.

Don’t appologize Mr. Micek. You appear to be the typically poorly educated J school graduate of recent years. Supression of speach was natural to your professors and has been passed on to you. So, it is a natural consequence of how you were indocternated.

Urinating on the bones of what is left of the Republic is as natural to you as it is to the New York Times.
