This Time for Real? Hunger-Striking Terrorist 'About to Die'

A Palestinian Arab terrorist held in an Israeli jail and on hunger strike for 53 days is in a critical condition and could die "at any moment," his lawyer said Saturday.

"Khader Adnan may suddenly die at any moment, doctors have confirmed to me," Jawad Boulos, legal counsel for the Ramallah-based Prisoners Club of the Palestinian Authority (PA) told AFP.

He said he received a call in the middle of the night saying "that the doctors at the Israeli hospital, where Khadar Adnan is currently held, were on alert due to the deterioration of his condition."

Khader Adnan has portrayed as an innocent man imprisoned by Israel without cause by radical leftist groups, but he is in fact a well-known leader of the Islamic Jihad terrorist group in the Judea and Samaria region. He is accused of planning attacks as well as openly inciting violence, in calls for suicide bombing attacks that have been caught on film.

Boulos said he made a bedside visit to his terrorist client on Saturday morning and found him "in a more critical condition, incapable of moving."

Israel Prisons Service spokeswoman Sivan Weizman said Adnan was receiving treatment in Assaf Harofeh hospital near Tel Aviv, but she could not comment on his medical condition.

Put a plate of good food in front of him.

Especially pork products.

“Looks like he’ll be joining Bobby Sands in Hell.”

Ah, Bobby Sands...I lived in Northern Ireland when Bobby Sands did his suicidal fast in 1981. One of the mechanical engineers who worked for me there knew Bobby.

I can’t help but think of Gandhi, but in a wrong-headed cause.

And it should be instructive: this type of action doesn’t always get the sympathy it needs to succeed.

I’m okay with this evil terrorist choosing to die and not take innocent people with him.

Who really cares? I think that any prisoner who decides a hunger strike is for him should be able to say when the time to end it is up-—or not.

When Bobby Sands croaked, the women of Belfast began banging trash can lids on the pavement as a signal that things were about to smoke.

I remember Margaret Thatcher standing her ground throughout his ill-fated fast. The Falklands War came soon after.

The Falklands war probably started because Britain no longer had an Audacious Class aircraft carrier, having decommissioned and begun scrapping HMS Ark Royal #91 in 1979. The Argentines probably would not attacked the Falklands if this aircraft carrier, with its Phantom jets were still a part of the Royal Navy, Argentina may not have been persuaded to attack. I saw this Ark Royal at Stranraer, Scotland several times when she was being scrapped (Ferry from Larne, Northern Ireland to Stranraer, Scotland passed the Cairnryan shipyard where she was being scrapped).

I have seen pictures of this Ark Royal alongside our carrier, the USS Nimitz. The Ark Royal is dwarfed by the Nimitz.

Britain had couple of small jump jet carriers were in the Falklands war. And the next Ark Royal, a jump jet carrier, was being built at that time.

I was in Spain in 1991 and visited Gibraltar. This jump jet Ark Royal was in port at Gibraltar while I was there. I saw it from the summit after climbing to the top via the Mediterranean Steps. Awesome!
