Greg Sargent warns Democrats not to get complacent about Obamacare:
House Republicans are still forging ahead with a separate lawsuit against Obama over the law (though it may not be resolved for years). Conservatives like Ted Cruz are still calling for holding spending bills hostage to roll back the ACA. GOP presidential hopefuls Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio, Bobby Jindal, and Cruz are all pledging to keep up the fight to repeal Obamacare every single word, as Cruz puts it.
....Democrats should take continued GOP opposition to Obamacare very seriously. It has serious real-world consequences. As long as states hold out against the Medicaid expansion, it could slow the laws efforts to realize its goal of expanding coverage. One thing this means is that Democrats should redouble their efforts to regain electoral ground on the level of the states, where future decisions about the Medicaid expansion will be made.
When Obama won the 2012 election, I figured Obamacare was finally safe. Except....there was still the Supreme Court. But they mostly upheld Obamacare, and once again I thought it was finally safe. Whew. Still, Republicans kept fighting. And things were still dicey as long as Obamacare was still vaporware. Then it finally went into effect in 2014, and disastrous rollout or not, I figured that was it. Once it's actually helping millions of people, it's safe. But wait! Then there was another Supreme Court case. But that dropped this week, and Obamacare was once again upheld.
So now Obamacare is finally safe, right? You'd think so, wouldn't you? But Republicans are obsessed with Obamacare like no other law that's been passed in decades. It's kind of scary, the same way it was scary watching the unhinged Captain Ahab stumping around the Pequod. So no, Obamacare is still not safe. Not unless Democrats win at least the White House, and maybe both the White House and the Senate, in 2016. At that point, Republicans will finally have to give up. They'd have no plausible path to repeal, and by 2020 the law would have been in place for seven years; it would be covering upwards of 25 million people; and the health care industry would be so plugged into Obamacare's rules that it would literally take years to extricate them if the law was repealed.
It sounds bizarrenot least of all to me, who badly underestimated how long Republicans could stay maniacally fixated on Obamacarebut it won't truly be safe until and unless Democrats win in 2016. I sure hope Democrats figure this out. If you want to know what we're up against, use Kevin's Quick Zeitgeist Test. Type "Obamacare" into Google and then go to image view. Here's the URL:

Now do a quick count of pro vs. anti Obamacare images in, say, the top 50 results. Not counting neutral photos, I put it at about 10:1 for the haters. These guys aren't giving up. Those of who support Obamacare had better show a similar level of passion for keeping it around.
Very good question. I’ve wondered about that myself.
Motherf****n’ Jones. Commie POS at their best.
Well the. If not Cruz, then WHO?? I can't think of any better. I could vote for a Walker...and possibly a few others, but he stands out head and shoulders above the rest.
Don't run after that middle class dream America, you'll only die tired.
It’s best to read the communists. That way we know what Obama is planning to do to our country - and what he fears.
There are ways around their fascism and bulls**t, but you have to be clever, smart and stay under the radar.
The first thing I want President Cruz to do is turn around and place Obama under arrest.
Then announce he is repealing EVERY SINGLE THING he ever did, and refuse to further implement Obamacare as totally incomprehensible legislation and call for its repeal.
Then announce he is doing a top-down audit of every single government agency. Amnesty for anyone who confesses to fraud within the first year, mandatory minimum of 10 years jail for government fraud after that. (they must make restitution, though)
Dissolve the EPA and Dept of Education.
Appoint Ted Nugent secretary of defense.
Ann Coulter as press secretary.
Walter Williams commerce
Thomas Sowell at the Fed.
Donald Trump Energy.
This Gravy Train called Obamacare\RobertsCare has left the station. This was the final attempt to stop it. And that failed.
Does anyone...ANYONE think that all the billions of dollars, all the infrastructure built as a jobs program for the left, all the buildings, offices, computers, furniture, everything, is going to be backed up?
Anyone?
I would put Trump in as the head of HUD.
Nope. And unless President (fill in the blank) has the support of both houses of Congress, all this talk of repeal is just BS too.
It is safe. It is perfectly safe. No eGOP member would possibly get rid of it. They have had years to do so and they haven’t.
Pure B.S. Liberals don’t like Obamacare any more than we do. They only support it because it is the handiwork of their Messiah, and the most logical path to single payer.
Maniacally? Really. Perhaps it has something to do with the precipitous and dramatic increase in insurance premiums, and decline in access and quality of medical care, or the fraud and mendacity nakedly perpetrated during the corrupt passing of this monstrosity, or maybe even the profound and damaging effect this will have on our future economy and society? Perhaps Republicans actually care about those little aspects of our national life, but, heck, I don't know... that's just me. I am often wrong. I thought the SCOTUS would uphold the Constitution of the United States of America, but clearly I was mistaken.
Of course it is. Do you really think McConnell and Boehner will allow more than tweaks to it?
Sarah Palin at Interior.
So, it is unhinged to oppose Obamacare vigorously, but “hinged” to support it without knowing what was inside it.
Reality is what will eventually kill Obamacare.
