Gettysburg to remove Confederate flag items (The Country has Gone Mad!!!!!)

Something tells me I should not get in on the conversation, being from up Canada way. Still just cannot go on without mentioning my little trip to Atlanta in 1959. There is a splendid building housing the Cyclorama. It is a huge round painting depicting the siege of Atlanta.

Outside is the locomotive called "The Texas". It is mounted and displayed. Union troops had forcibly boarded a locomotive called "The General". They were intent on mayhem and drove many miles away. An engineer and Confederate soldiers chased the General, using the Texas and halted the train.

Sadly, because of the rules of war, eight Union men were hanged. Nine survived. An epic story. Buster Keaton appeared in the 1926 film "The General" loosely based on the real event. His role was of the engineer who was a Southern hero. Very sympathetic to the South, this old movie.

Surely this revisionism will blow over. Even liberals get tired .

The mayor of New Orleans wants to remove the statue of Robert E. Lee. Btw, I think it’s odd that this is happening at the same time that ISIS is destroying churches and other historical sites throughout the Mideast. Interesting coincidence?

This is outrageous. It’s rewriting history by frenzied mobs. At this write don’t be surprised if the US flag and Forth of July will be next. Farrakahn is already calling for removal of the US flag. The slave ships flew the US, not any Confederate, flags.

A lot of northerners paid a high price driving those flags out once. I don’t think we need to spend another second worrying about the ones left behind.

My father took me to Gettysburg in 1963 for the Centennial. Biggest ten day event I 'er did see. He let me pick a cap. I'm a Yankee but of course I picked a Johnny Reb cap with Confederate Flag on top. It blew off my head and out the window of the car on the long ride back home. My father never spoke a word, but he turned that car around and risked life and limb crossing several lanes of highway, and retrieved my Johnny Reb cap.

A couple of years ago I ordered one of each cap (blue and grey) from the Gettysburg Museum Catalogue for my nephew on his birthday.

I can't say that I do unless it's in the abstract, that is a certain orthodoxy of sorts. I say leave them all up, Stone Mountain, the statues of whomever. They're monuments to the losers.
