For the second time in four Supreme Court terms, Chief Justice John Roberts has broken with conservatives and rescued the Affordable Care Act from potential oblivion.
Roberts, an unlikely hero of sorts for the law, wrote the majority opinion on Thursday upholding a key provision of Obamacare that helps provide health-insurance subsidies to more than 6 million Americans.
"Congress passed the Affordable Care Act to improve health insurance markets, not to destroy them," Roberts wrote in his opinion Thursday.
He was joined by the court's four liberals — and, this time, traditional swing Justice Anthony Kennedy. It prompted a scathing dissent from fellow conservative Justice Antonin Scalia, who took a shot at Roberts.
This case, King v. Burwell, was long considered by observers to be a chance for Roberts to redeem himself with conservatives, who felt slighted by his decision to break with the court's right-leaning members in 2012.
He reportedly changed his vote at the last minute, delivering the majority opinion that upheld the heart of the Affordable Care Act — its mandate that individuals buy insurance or pay a penalty. Roberts said the penalty was constitutional because it was the same thing as a tax.

The Boondoggle Too Big To Fail... so now we have a court rewriting the law rather than letting the political branches fill in a hole. And wasn’t it this same Roberts who was so much for listening to the political branches last time around?
Because this land has not listened to God, God has let the devil turn its wisdom into craziness. We must all pray for the Lord to have mercy.
Okay, Roberts just became no longer useful to Obama. Now the DOJ can prosecute him for Child Trafficking and take his children away. Roberts will resign and Obama gets to appoint a real Liberal to the bench, taking the balance away from the next POTUS who will likely be a Republican.
The blackmail file on Roberts will pay dividends for years to come. No telling what they have, beyond the illegal adoption in Ireland.
It’s not just being gay. The manner in which he adopted his ‘Irish’ children from South America is not legal. AND there may be more dirt that we don’t know.

John Roberts did not break with anybody. He broke last time around with obamacare and whatever information was shown him about his past that he preferred to remain unpublicized. He will not go back. He is effectively part of the Ginsburg etc bloc.
Wasn’t he already known during the Bush era for a degree of claimed “libertarianism” that went beyond permissiveness?
People didn’t pay attention to such “little things” back then. I actually wonder if Miers would have given us better sanity at this juncture.
I can't imagine why the lawyers(?) bringing this case to the SCOTUS expected any other ruling. After all, nothing has changed since the 0bamacare abomination first went before the 'court' -
- Roberts is still under threat of blackmail for the illegal adoption of his kids;
- the number of socialist justices hasn't changed;
- and we still have an illegal alien squatting in the white hut (who now claims it is HIS house).
If anything 0bama has a stronger hand now, having Little Johnny Boehner and Mitchie McConnell available to kiss his butt on demand (because I suspect he has major dirt on both).
Not again. It only takes once. That big block of concrete will be hanging over his head until he dies. If he were a man he would have bitten the bullet the first time. Unless whatever it is will get him to impeached, they can't touch him. What is the statute of limitations on paedophilia? Is there one?
It’s no surprise that the treasonous Roberts strikes again.
What amazed me was that Kennedy - who was infuriated with Roberts for switching at the last moment at the first Obamacare vote - now sides with him.
It’s all about the bribery and money.
Guess he didn’t want to give Kennedy the honors on that one. It would have passed anyway right?

Roberts is actually AGAINST the law and FOR Big Government, to the benefit of the children.
