If I were of the black, I would be very grateful as well. My husbands family came over, paid for their trip, then put into 7 year servitude anyway as the Ship cap't claimed they did not pay and Gov. Spottswood agreed to the lie in order to establish his German town in VA. That is the way I have read about it.
No grudges though, his people moved on with their lives.
