The border surge, a year later: Schools struggling with influx of unaccompanied minors

A year after the height of the so-called surge, a weeks-long period last summer when tens of thousands of Central American children crossed illegally into the United States, education experts say the federal government has left the burden of educating and caring for these children to cash-strapped public schools.

Over the last year, teachers and administrators have been left to teach these kids English, even though some of them had never stepped foot inside of a classroom and many are in need of mental health counseling following their traumatic encounters with gang violence, sex trafficking or kidnapping in their native countries.

How the local school systems nationwide are faring is one of the untold stories of the unaccompanied children’s crisis, according to Margie McHugh, Director at the Migration Policy Institute’s National Center on Immigrant Integration Policy.

Schools, she said, are facing two big challenges with this student population. The first is that there are a lot of mental health issues the children are dealing with that are undetected and undiagnosed. Secondly, many of these children come from school systems in their countries that are in complete disarray.

“You have to understand,” Johnson said of Hempstead’s new students, “many of the children are not even proficient in their native language, Spanish, and now we have to teach them how to speak English. That can be very difficult.”

In New York State alone, 20 school districts were investigated for trying to illegally stop undocumented children from enrolling in their schools. The investigation found that the districts were making illegal inquiries into the students’ or their parents’ immigration status.

As a result, all 20 school districts agreed to new oversight policies to ensure all children are allowed to enroll.

Imagine how the taxpayers feel. It’s money that was stolen from them that is being wasted on these cowardly, freeloading foreigners who won’t even fight for their own country.

They’re just here for the Free Stuff. If you feed them they will come, and they are adept at law-breaking. They have no respect for Uncle ASAP or his laws.

Why don’t these school districts contact Glenn Beck?

For those who don’t remember, Glenn took it upon himself to chastise those of us who rebelled against illegal, disease-ridden invaders being dumped upon the country.

Nope, Glenn says we’re not being compassionate enough. So, he comes to the border to feed and give comfort to them for all to see.

When the cameras and microphones left, so did Glenn. Back to his gated community, armed guards, lots of fresh, quality food, and no worries. Twenty school districts in NYS, not so much.

Thanks Glenn for aiding and abetting 0bama and Valerie.

The sad part is that these kids are being used by everybody. Used by their parents to qualify for deferred status. The democrats look at the parents as potential voters and more votes from Hispanic voters. The Chamber of Commerce wants cheap labor and the GOPe goes along. In the meantime the lower middle class gets destroyed, wages are suppressed, and domestic drug trafficking is taken over by the cartels.

Politicians are all freaking out over a 150 year old flag at the same time they are supporting the largest human trafficking scheme in modern history. Illegal labor is only two or three steps away from slavery.

And instead of doing anything about this or any other aspect of the tyranny under which we now live the GOP’s main focus is to side with the regime and the left in their quest to abolish the 1st Amendment over the flag of the Army of Northern Virginia and so called “equal rights” for sodomites.

Can you imagine what kind of diseases, sanitary problems, and mental issues these kids have? And how they could negatively effect the native-born students? Another reason to homeschool.

ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the “other” articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)

The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.

I agree. F’ing liberals never think of the consequences of their speech or actions. Hispanics are the salt of the Earth as far as these idiots are concerned until they show up in your neighborhood and your local hospital is overwhelmed , your schools too, your car is stolen and your daughter is raped. Deal with it or deport them.
