S.C. Gov. Haley says 'time has come' to remove Confederate flag from state buildings

Because there is absolutely no other important issue that needs our attention more.

She obviously has some crazy idea that she might be a potential vice-presidential pick. What issue could be more important to her than that?

Maybe removing the Confederate flag will resolve the ISIS terrorism problem. Or maybe, it will magically create enough ships for the United States to deploy its own troops.

All those blacks killing blacks. All those murders in all those cities. All caused by this flag. Definitely.

I agree with the governor's decision. There's no reason to display the confederate battle flag on state property if it's going to antagonize a large percentage of the state's population.

While I fully realize that the Civil War had political dimensions which were outside of the slavery issue, for many black citizens, it did represent, to them, at least, the state endorsing the vestiges of the slavery era.

As such, I think it is wise for the governor to put this issue in the rear view mirror.

Something tells me that the Battle Flag of the Confederacy will still enjoy plenty of expression throughout the state, wherever private citizens, businesses, societies, museums, memorials, etc. think it is appropriate.

I hope that the die-hard Southern Heritage element will not let this stick in their craws. This does not represent a diminishing of the legacy left by the brave and proud soldiers who fought for States Rights in the South.

But the logical association of that symbol with slavery is undeniable, and as such, it should probably not be displayed on public property which is intended to serve a unified South Carolina citizenry. Thus, I don't find it controversial that the Battle Flag of a vanquished foe will no longer be displayed on state grounds.

Flame suit on.

Lets put it this way. South Carolina was once part of the Confederacy. Which was a different country. And for some bizarre reason decides to fly this flag on State buildings even though it isn’t the State flag.

Texas was once part of Mexico. What would be your reaction if Texas decided to start flying a Mexican flag on ITS state buildings?

I’m guessing a bit different.....

Emotional Wave.....Republican Cave

We saw this in Indiana and Arkansas over Religious Freedom in March, now this.

Symbols did not cause mass murder and their removal will not stop any mass murder in the future.

God Bless Nikki Haley....but she is wrong just like 95 percent of elected Republicans are ultimately wrong, repudiating or faking conservatism, pretending to have principles when they have none......

why these people allow the media to set the narrative is beyond me. The story here is a group of people, in the face of terror and hate, chose the path of Jesus. Not a symbol an inanimate object that most people ignore.
The guy was driven to hate by a mass media and a leadership that condoned and even encouraged hate. By a country that has turned its back on it’s own greatness and has removed God and judgment from the public discourse.

The country is headed to hell on rails if they fail to see this.

I wonder if Nikki understands that taking the flag down is not much removed from removing 2nd Amendment rights ....

Ironic that I'm listening to "Dixie" by Black Oak Arkansas as I read/type this.
