TURIN, Italy, June 21 (Reuters) - People who manufacture weapons or invest in weapons industries are hypocrites if they call themselves Christian, Pope Francis said on Sunday.

Francis issued his toughest condemnation to date of the weapons industry at a rally of thousands of young people at the end of the first day of his trip to the Italian city of Turin.

"If you trust only men you have lost," he told the young people in a long, rambling talk about war, trust and politics after putting aside his prepared address.

"It makes me think of ... people, managers, businessmen who call themselves Christian and they manufacture weapons. That leads to a bit a distrust, doesn't it?" he said to applause.

He also criticised those who invest in weapons industries, saying "duplicity is the currency of today ... they say one thing and do another."

And He said to them, “But now, whoever has a money belt is to take it along, likewise also a bag, and whoever has no sword is to sell his coat and buy one. “For I tell you that this which is written must be fulfilled in Me, ‘AND HE WAS NUMBERED WITH TRANSGRESSORS’; for that which refers to Me has its fulfillment.”

They said, “Lord, look, here are two swords.”

And He said to them, “It is enough.”

Il Papa should read Scripture instead of watching “An Inconvenient Crap Yarn” by Algore.

The Bible, including the NT is replete with references to war, battle, etc.
1 Corinthians 14:8 uses the concept of battle in an illustrative sense. God would not use a sinful, forbidden activity to illustrate a positive Christian doctrine. In fact, God has foretold one or more upcoming wars and battles in the very end times.

Statements such as this by the pope is just silliness. The kind of forced, desperate logic one frabs for when their side is getting their butts kicked; such as everyone with a brain and an honest heart recognizing AGW for the lying, hurtful fraud that it is. IMHO.

If you have a mutual fund that invests in a defense contractor, the Pope doesn’t want you. Find a solid Protestant church where you’ll be weldome.

Why didn’t they bomb (the railway lines)?"

I read an article about that recently. It turns out that the Germans had very efficient, quick-response railroad repair teams.

So unless there was an overriding reason to hit a rail line (like it being the day before D-Day), such attacks were of little lasting value.

The world is coming up on the quincentennial in 2017 of the start of the Reformation by Martin Luther, who eventually identified and denounced (in many writings including the Smalcald Articles) the pope as the Antichrist.

And Popes who have billions of dollars of art treasures and other items while there are hungry is like the rich young ruler that can not give up his wealth and hence can not follow Jesus.
Hypocrisy is a two way street, your Holiness!

Perhaps he should lead by example. Eliminate the Vatican Guard, eliminate his bodyguards, open the Vatican to anyone who wishes to live there, open his dining room to all who wish to partake, open the treasury to those in “need” and while he is at it, prosecute those who break the law, perhaps starting the pedophile priests.

Yup! Until then, the pope can STFU.

“Eliminate the Vatican Guard, eliminate his bodyguards,...”

I agree, he should get rid of all weapons that keep him safe. According to his pronouncement, he is committing sin to have weapons defend him. I am a Catholic and have weapons to defend me and family.

About the railway lines, I think the pope missed the time line.

All those Jews, homosexuals, and others had ALREADY been rounded up in various concentration camps. And the horrors of concentration camps were discovered AFTER they had been liberated.

The pope can argue the point of strategic bombing of railway lines in a war (which makes him just another armchair general), but he can’t criticize Allies for the reason he gave.
