TURIN, Italy, June 21 (Reuters) - People who manufacture weapons or invest in weapons industries are hypocrites if they call themselves Christian, Pope Francis said on Sunday.

Francis issued his toughest condemnation to date of the weapons industry at a rally of thousands of young people at the end of the first day of his trip to the Italian city of Turin.

"If you trust only men you have lost," he told the young people in a long, rambling talk about war, trust and politics after putting aside his prepared address.

"It makes me think of ... people, managers, businessmen who call themselves Christian and they manufacture weapons. That leads to a bit a distrust, doesn't it?" he said to applause.

He also criticised those who invest in weapons industries, saying "duplicity is the currency of today ... they say one thing and do another."

So unless there was an overriding reason to hit a rail line (like it being the day before D-Day), such attacks were of little lasting value.

To say nothing of the fact that attacking rail lines leading to extermination camps would do nothing to actually weaken the Reich itself, which was the ultimate goal.

This pope needs to go. I’m Catholic and I find him an embarrassment.

I’d hope not, but since the sword of the full armor is the Word of God, it’s not surprising that Francis seems to be underarmed in that area as well.

AFAIK, there is no official procedure to depose a Pope that is unfit to lead.

That's pretty interesting considering the qualifications found in Scripture for spiritual leaders and how to deal with immorality in the church.

In the book of Revelation, Jesus tells churches to straighten out or they'd be gone.

But I guess in this case, someone is protecting his own, and I'm not talking about Jesus.

I guess the Catholic church can't having any of that holding each other accountable. It just might come back to bite them. The old boy's club thing.

Your still a Christian as long as you follow the bible, and accept Jesus as your savior. No man on earth can take that from you, even if he can cast you out of his ‘church’ for not sharing his non-religious political believes.

Do the Roman Catholics around here still defend this guy?

Seems like Peter the Roman, and what little I know.

It’s amazing, the past ten years of my life and the entire world is backasswards. Right is wrong, wrong is right, good is evil, evil is good.

Also we are sitting on a huge geo-political powder keg that would just take one spark in a few dozen places to explode.

The next few years might be interesting.

So says the man who travels the world with an armed escort the, Swiss guard, what a hypocrite.

When the allies were fighting the nazis, they should have gone with bare knuckles?

Can someone give me a reason why we should accord this pope more respect than a sidewalk preacher? He has a nice ring on his finger, is that it?

John Paul, ….or Benedict, could you come back and school your successor in Reason?

For Protestants wanting to convert Catholics, this Pope is going to be a gold mine.

I hate to say it..... but this pope is sounding more and more like the end times false prophet every time he opens his mouth and bleats. What’s next? What group will he denounce next? What proclamation will he make demonizing a whole group of people now? That anybody that owns a gun or that gun owners are not real Christians? This pope is not a real Christian, in my humble opinion. He’s blaming guns and anyone connected with the making of guns.... instead of blaming the people that sin while using guns. That’s not just idiotic. It’s evil. Characteristic of the father of lies.

John Paul II wasn't the same sort of "eccentric", but he did stray several times on the environment. Here's one excerpt:
Vatican (CWN) - Speaking to an international Rotary Club group at the Vatican this morning, Pope John Paul II
said that care for the environment now constitutes one of the "new forms of solidarity" across the generations. By careful stewardship of our natural
resources, he explained, we can help "those who are neediest, and those of future generations."
The Rotary Club International is meeting in Rome to discuss the theme of security and the environment. Responding to that theme, the Holy Father urged the international delegates not to fall into the "double temptation" of the modern era: the temptation to equate wisdom with power over nature, and to use resources solely in pursuit of immediate profit "according to the mentality of modern capitalist society."
Against that temptation, the Pope urged the Rotary leaders to consider the world's environment as a home for mankind, to be maintained in the best possible condition. He emphasized that "our new scientific capacities have taken on a strong ethical dimension."+ March 24, 1997

Yes, you’re right about that. It’s like a cancer in the church. I guess that’s what the article is all about after all. I know that the church has been infiltrated on all levels. I just see Bergolio’s face and cringe with disgust. He’s puts a face on the corruption.

Amen! And trust in God's Word. As Christ is the head of the Church, His Word is the foundation.

"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine,
for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works." - 2 Timothy 3:16-17

Then dismiss his guards. Seriously, he just told his Swiss Guards they are not Christian, so unlock the doors and leave.
