How climate-change doubters lost a papal fight
Washington Post ^ | June 20, 2015 | By Anthony Faiola and Chris Mooney

VATICAN CITY — Pope Francis was about to take a major step backing the science behind human-driven global warming, and Philippe de Larminat was determined to change his mind.

A French doubter who authored a book arguing that solar activity — not greenhouse gases — was driving global warming, de Larminat sought a spot at a climate summit in April sponsored by the Vatican’s Pontifical Academy of Sciences. Nobel laureates would be there. So would U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, U.S. economist Jeffrey Sachs and others calling for dramatic steps to curb carbon emissions.

fter securing a high-level meeting at the Vatican, he was told that, space permitting, he could join. He bought a plane ticket from Paris to Rome. But five days before the April 28 summit, de Larminat said, he received an e-mail saying there was no space left. It came after other scientists — as well as the powerful Vatican bureaucrat in charge of the academy — insisted he had no business being there.

“They did not want to hear an off note,” de Larminat said.

It marked the latest blow for those seeking to stop the reform-minded train that has become Francis’s papacy. It is one that has reinvigorated liberal Catholics even as it has sowed the seeds of resentment and dissent inside and outside the Vatican’s ancient walls. . .

If we ever wondered what a hippie would look like as a pope, we should wonder no more.

The Pope is fast becoming a Leftist Loon ... I cannot be reverent about a man who throws the sanctity of his office out on the street with such ridiculous statements. The Pope’s true colors are showing and it is not Holy ..

When it became just about morals, and not about accepting the grace of Christ unto salvation, then the age of Aquarius sky became the limit. After all even global warmism could be pressed into a moral question.

A system that leaned so hard upon him that it would take a pratfall for such foolishness, needs to be looked at too.

Pope Francis has been hoodwinked by the climate change wackos. Can we now expect a new Inquisition to root out climate change heretics (deniers)?

Funny watching the media pretend they want to listen to the pope.

So what do you expect?

Catholicism is a religion and so is global warming. It’s hard to fault a religious leader for trying to fleece the credulous.

Very interesting question. If the ducks are lined up, which none of us has the visiblity to know, it could happen.

Fleecing suggests knowledge of a racket.

This pope according to some quotes is proud of his ignorance about affairs around the world.

If he was content to be a theological maven that would be a fine attitude. But if he wants to opine about things world, he should know about things world.

That’s right. The Pope is using the man-made climate change fad as a crutch to support his 19th century, Marx-derived views against modernity, capitalism, the free market, the Industrial Revolution, etc.

Interesting - there was even a 19th century opera written to characterize these so-called evils - Das Rheingold by Richard Wagner. An evil, hunch-backed dwarf swears to forsake all love in order to unleash the power of a natural resource - gold - which he steals, and by means of which he sets up an underground sweatshop factory, employing other dwarves as worker/slaves to mine more and more gold. His aim is to amass so much gold, by means of his slave labor, he can rule the world.

What the Pope says is so depressingly familiar.

Looks like he has heaped up his own teachers for his itching ears.

The bible tells us this won’t end well.

He’s managed to tickle the world’s ears.

The world loves him because he's taking the broad easy path. That straight and narrow one is too hard.

The narrow one is the one led by the Lord. And this warmism stuff just doesn’t sound like the Lord.

Well Comrade Pope is just keeping their “scientific” losing streak intact: Flat Earth, Sun Revolves around the Earth, Communism is a viable economic model, Man made Global Warming .......
