Answers and evidence in Twin Peaks shootout delayed by case complexity, police caution
Waco Tribune ^ | June 20, 2015 | TOMMY WITHERSPOON

One month after the deadly May 17 shootout at Twin Peaks prompted the unprecedented mass arrests of 177 bikers, officials are releasing limited information and say disclosure of certain evidence, including videos of the incident, would compromise their investigation.

The incident was of such a rare scale and variety that McLennan County officials had never experienced anything like it.

Their response after the shooting stopped has been criticized from some corners and spawned at least one federal civil rights lawsuit and a judicial complaint.

Now, as the media, bikers and their relatives push for answers, many questions remain unanswered because of the sheer magnitude of the incident: nine dead, 20 wounded, 177 arrested, 27 vehicles seized, 488 weapons found on scene to date.

Officials are quick to point out the criminal justice system does not work like it does on TV crime shows, despite the public’s expectations.

“This is an investigation. The term ‘investigation’ carries with it a careful and impartial consideration of all the evidence and all the facts,” said 19th State District Judge Ralph Strother. “It is not done on ‘CSI’ time. It is done in real life and in the real world. It is to everyone’s best interests that all parties know everything so that we can be fair to everyone, and that cannot be done overnight.”

The incident at Twin Peaks apparently was not captured on video by any innocent bystanders or it already would have surfaced, as in the case of the McKinney, Texas, pool party where teenagers filmed former police officer David Casebolt flinging a girl to the ground and drawing his gun on other teens who did not obey his orders.

Can the lawyers of the accused demand to see the autopsy results now, before they can be Cleansed?

Has the question been posed to the authorities as to whether any of the law enforcement officials there had any drones recording the activities from above?

Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said officers will not release any evidence they feel could taint a potential jury pool

The demonizing of all persons on motorcycles be dammed.

There have been three funerals in the news thus far for Waco victims which implies that at least three autopsies are complete.

I was also unable to find a coroner or medical examiner for McLennan County, so I don’t know where the autopsies are being performed.

I haven't been following the news much in the past week and had not seen this before:

Waco Police Chief Brent Stroman said last week that three Waco officers fired a total of 12 shots from .223-caliber police-issued rifles during the shootout. All other shells found at the scene weren’t from law enforcement weapons, he said.

Yes. That little piece came out on 5/12 when Stroman also revealed that his men were sitting in their vehicles when the violent altercation began.

Many of the suspects who’ve had their vehicles returned are still missing their cellphones, however. Local officials said they are sifting through the communications stored on the devices. Swanton said officials will pull anything considered evidence from phones, including video, texts and phone logs. He noted that also could include relevant social media content, if necessary.

All 150 "suspects" many of whom held no firearm and fired no shot. It's a fishing expedition. Wonder what restrictions if any there will be in how the data is used/shared or if any other crimes (unrelated to activities that day) will be charged based on email/texts/social media/mail content.

Did you note in the article that ballistics was being done by BATF in Cali? Initial report from Waco PD was that it was to be done in Washington.

All the autopsies were farmed out to an organization outside of Dallas. That was made public a while ago.

>>> ...Waco officers fired a total of 12 shots from .223-caliber police-issued rifles during the shootout. <<<

Police shoot center of mass and this means that the police fired upon and intended to kill a maximum of 12 people. Because of this, the police may have been responsible for most of the deaths and serious injuries.

The one biker who had a bullet go through his arm, enter his chest and exit his back was probably shot with a small-caliber, high velocity, fully jacketed round: exactly what the police use in their M-14/AR-15 rifles.

I missed that too. I suspect that I’m entering information overload from reading the last thread with all the trolling. Thanks for the heads-up.

It’s interesting that we’re up to “ 488 weapons found on scene to date.”
Wasn’t the count at 300 or so last week? I wonder what got ‘reclassified’ as a weapon; more nail clippers?
