Mika Gushes: Brian Williams Will Be 'Great' for MSNBC
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Yes, what could be better for an already-troubled network than to be saddled with a disgraced hand-me-down from the mother ship?

On today's Morning Joe, Mika Brzezinski gushed "I think that it's great for the network" that Brian Williams will be joining MSNBC as its anchor of breaking news. As dutiful employees, it's understandable that MSNBC people would greet Williams impending arrival respectfully, as did Joe Scarborough in saying--without excitement--that he was "very excited." But Mika went beyond the call of duty with her "great for this network" line.

Brian Williams will have Mika fired.
She is just schmoozing hoping it doesn’t happen.

While this shreds the already tattered credibility of NBC News even further, this is actually the most pragmatic legal and financial resolution for the network.

A man of Brian Williams’ arrogance and vanity would not have not slinked away quietly if he had been fired or shorted a dollar on his buyout.

But he will quit if his ego is bruised, and a demotion to an ill-defined role on MSNBC will be a heavy pounding that not even $10 million a year can cushion.

And every day he stays on at MSNBC shrinks any payout he receives when he quits, if he receives any at all.

NBC just has to wait for him to quit, cut the cheque for the bare minimum if they must, and let him vanish into obscurity.

ok, here’s the straight poop

Brian has a contract that would cost a lot to break.

Best course for Comcast is to exile him to MSNBC which is the equivalent of Lower Slobovia. He is being encouraged to leave the Comcast world thus voiding the onerous contract
