Morning Joe: Joke Could Be On Those Who Mock Trump
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 06/18/2015 7:47:46 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

"People who think he's a joke and a fool need to be careful because by the end of the campaign, the joke may be on them." That's how Joe Scarborough summed up the surprisingly respectful analysis of Donald Trump's candidacy on today's Morning Joe.

Introducing the segment, Scarborough suggested that if Trump sticks to a Perot-like populist message, he could get 15% of the primary vote. When Joe turned to Steve Schmidt, this NewsBuster expected the former McCain campaign manager and establishment Republican to dump on Trump. But to the contrary, Schmidt agreed heartily with Joe and went on to make the case that Trump is channeling widespread popular resentment, is the man people would want to hear in a debate, and could be "very impactful" in the race. John Heilemann was similarly respectful of Trump's potential, saying he "doesn't play by the rules and is fearless," and receives serious, generally favorable local coverage in places like Iowa and New Hampshire.

The real joke is that someone like Hillary Clinton stands any chance of gaining the White House.

Trump is just there to help Hillary win. He’s donated a bunch of cash to her in the past.

Trump won’t make it to Iowa.

The press is going to hold him to every quip, quote, and silly statement. The media cannot discern sarcasm and rhetoric from anyone but Hillary and Obama.

They will irritate him. He will blow up at them.

It will be a fun distraction for the summer.

Unfortunately, in the U.S., the stupid are allowed to vote.

Donald Trump is not fearless, as morning Josef Stalin said. He is a belligerent coward. He proved that by the things he said about Pamela Geller's 'Draw Mohammed contest.' I guess to a lib/commie anyone who is a blowhard is fearless. In many respects, Donald Trump is a male version of Carly Fiorini.

And an AMERICAN would also be nice for a change!

Generals? Oh my goodness. There is not a General in any of the services that is not a PC Hack. Well, maybe a few.

But the Eisenhowers of today are majors and Lt Cols who are in the backgrounds or sitting in the chairs against the walls. Remember, Ike was a Major as the war broke out.

No, we are stuck with the media darlings and our versions of MacArthur (Trump) for a while.

When the whole thing falls apart, maybe one of the colonels running the Junta will step up and be a man.

After the White House did produced their phony birth certificate (they were too lazy to even photocopy it and just moved the adobe drawing to a computer file), Donald Trump dropped his birth certificate rhetoric. He is a buffoon and a belligerent coward.

I'll mock him in the primaries.

I'll mock him in the general election.

I'll mock him as President.

I'll mock him on the beaches, I'll mock him on the landing grounds, I'll mock him in the fields and in the streets, I'll mock him in the hills........

I think Trump message is spot on.

My husband does not like him. Rush L. does not seem to be supporting him and generally my political barometer.

Yeah, I wonder why, is it the male ego that you guys dont like it? Just trying to guess. I dont see any of the other candidates standing out but I like many of them.

H. Ross Perot did his best to help elect Bill Clinton; Donald Trump will do the same with Bill Clinton's wife.

The left mocks Trump.

The Republican establishment mocks Trump.

Therefore I like Trump, if for no other reason.

I can imagine this board if it exsisted when Reagan ran (it didn't). But many here would say they would never vote for an actor.

Get real, do you know anything about Reagan and conservatism? Evidently not.

The nation needs an Eisenhower or a Patton.

Won't be any of those coming along unless we somehow manage to -win- a war, something we have not done for about seventy years now.

In case you missed it, here's the Trump campaign slogan:

"You know what happened to all those folks who invested in my Trump Hotels and Casinos???

Well, once I'm elected, that is EXACTLY WHAT'S GONNA HAPPEN TO THE MEXICANS AND CHINESE!!!!"

Trump will lose interest and quit, just like the last time he “ran”. He can’t stand to share attention and he won’t last.

All i know is after watching his 'I will run' speech i wanted more. Like candy.

All the other candidates would be great at managing the demise, Trump is the only one going the other way.

The 69 year old man is shallow, and not serious, and not conservative, he is pure self serving celebrity, that is what conservatives don’t like about him.

Is it a president Oprah in 2020 or 2024 that appeals to you?

The joke is on the Republican Party.

Trump makes a mockery of and exposes the farce of the Republican Party.
