Concealed weapons of California: The numbers

Requests from more than 16,000 Californians to carry a concealed gun in public are in limbo, pending a final decision in a landmark lawsuit that’s scheduled to be reheard today in a federal courtroom in San Francisco. Some of these requests are in file boxes down the street at the San Francisco Police Department, which saw a spike in applications after the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals struck down the state’s “good cause” requirement as unconstitutional last year.

70,593 – The number of Californians with an active concealed carry permit. That’s about 0.2 percent of the state population, well below the national average. There are an estimated 11 million concealed gun permits nationwide, representing about 5 percent of the population.

316 – The number of judges permitted to carry a concealed gun in California. More than a quarter of them – 87 – reside in Los Angeles County, more than twice the next highest county.

If you feel the need to carry, you should. In California its a misdemeanor to carry without a CCW, but carry a billy club its a felony. To get a CCW in CA is near impossible unless you are Dianne Feinstein or influential. So what is your life worth? The second Amendment is all the gun permit you need...its up to you to decide in this day and age if youll be the victim of a liberal society that protects and emboldens criminals, or if you and your family live.

"To get a CCW in CA is near impossible..."

In some counties, true.

In others, not true.

Yes in some counties, but overall picture and numbers of CCW’s issued throughout the state compared to the population is paltry and highly political in nature.

Which counties are the best if your sole purpose is to get a CA CCW? IIRC, Kern Co. Sheriff 10 years ago or so would hand them out like candy. He did a quick Co background check, a quick CA background check, called into NCIC, did the paperwork, and you were on your way to being approved.

Just wondering because the week after the ruling, I called my father in law in Thousand Oaks (Ventura Co) to go ahead and apply for the license since he would have standing in the event that the case went "sideways".

Thanks.

I have a CCW in MS and had to travel through NY recently. According to NY "laws", in order to transport my weapon, I would have to have the weapon in a locked case in the trunk and the ammo and magazines separate from the weapon and each other and locked in the glove box or similar compartment. Also not allowed to stop, but have to continue through the State which can be interpreted as a breach of their "law" if I stop for gas, food, or to use a restroom. Won't say how I handled it but I prefer to not go unarmed because an unconstitutional State is in my path.

Kern Co. is still pretty much that way, the only thing missing from your list is the CCW class...
