From The Guardian: Pope Francis will this week call for changes in lifestyles and energy consumption to avert the “unprecedented destruction of the ecosystem” before the end of this century, according to a leaked draft of a papal encyclical. In a document released by an Italian magazine on Monday, the pontiff will warn that failure to act would have “grave consequences for all of us”.

CHICAGO (CBS) — Outspoken St. Sabina pastor Rev. Michael Pfleger said he would like to see cardinals pick someone from a third-world nation as the next pope.
WBBM Newsradio’s John Cody reports Pfleger said the church has a unique opportunity as it begins the process of selecting a new pope.
“I would love to see somebody from a third-world country, and the reason I say that is because they would have an understanding of issues that I think are plaguing not just America, but the world; poverty, injustice, and war,” he said.

One would think from reading that Catholics the world over are absolutely obsessed with the Pope and his words - obeying slavishly every worldly word. In fact, most people go to Mass and mind their own business. It’s usually non-Catholics who are obsessed with Popes.

Popes will come and popes will go - including the snake oil salemen types. However, the Church is the same as it ever was. It is not a snake oil show. Catholics are not ‘followers’ of a pope. They are followers of Jesus Christ.
The pope is a mere man. This one is as flawed as they come.

Geez, what, does a bell go off in your kister every time a Catholic tries to teach the difference between ex cathedra and an encyclical? Just looking at 752, it is simply saying that one should at least read said encyclical before spouting off. I choose to spout off.

There is NOTHING in them that suggests a pope has any authority over scientific matters. If a pope came out and said that 3x3=17 he would be wrong, but this wouldn't diminish his spiritual authority.
