Our Overnight Orwellian Unraveling

RUSH: Let me get to this piece that I have been referencing for the first hour from the website the Federalist. "How to Escape the Age of Mass Delusion." Now, remember, I went searching for this because I was sent an e-mail from a Republican friend who thinks that the Republicans ought to drop the social issues stuff 'cause if they keep on they're gonna keep losing. I've always had a problem with that, and the headline of the story was: "Wall Street Is Getting Tired of Funding Socially Conservative Republicans Running for President."

The problem that I have with this is it's not the Republicans that are pushing social issues. The Republicans are defending them, for crying out loud! The left is who's pushing social issues, and nobody ever complains about 'em doing so. The Democrat Party is the biggest purveyor of social issues. The Democrat Party is the biggest promoter of social issues. The Democrat Party's agenda demands movement on social issues! This idea that the Republicans are pushing social issues is absurd.

Now, I know what it really means. What it really means when some Wall Street-New York liberal Republican starts complaining about social issues, he's talking about abortion. It's a single issue, and they're tired of it, and they think that the Republican Party can't win if that becomes an important campaign issue. The reason they think that is because the left has been so successful in corrupting the culture, folks.

I mean, there are a lot of people who are very aware that America as they've known it -- our society, culture, whatever you want to call it -- is undergoing massive transformation, and not for the good, not for the betterment. And they don't know specifically why, and they certainly don't know how to stop it. But yet when Republicans start talking about abortion, if they do, then they think the Republicans are the problem. In my estimation, the Republicans...

It may be a branding problem. It may be a way-they-go-about-it problem. But the Republicans are not the social issues fetishists. It's the Democrats who are. Look at what we now are commanded to accept, agree with, and support -- or else. Gay marriage, transgenderism, transracialism, trans-this, trans-that. We are supposed to sit by and accept all of this. Redefinitions of marriage to include...? No telling where it's going. But the definitions have been obliterated now.

Marriage, the definition of marriage is not gonna stop here with just two men, two women, or a man and a woman getting married. It's gonna end up being much more than that because it has to. Marriage, the definition, has been blown away, and now it can become whatever somebody claims to want it to be. As consensus forms around all of these not-all-that-long-ago-obviously oddball behaviors, then the oddball behaviors become the norm.

The new oddballs, the new weirdos, the new kooks are the people who do not support all this new oddball, weirdo stuff, and thus they get marginalized. And, in simple terms, they're not cool. They're not hip and so forth. Now, how did this happen is always something that has intrigued me. The sociological aspects of things intrigue the heck out of me. I ran across a story that was published on June 8th in the Federalist by Stella Morabito.

It's entitled, "How to Escape the Age of Mass Delusion -- Mass delusion is an important tool of oppressors because they can’t survive free expression. That's why the First Amendment’s a target." Free expression is the enemy of the left. The First Amendment, free expression is the enemy of all of these leftist groups try to transform the culture. While they try to tell you that they are the epitome of liberation, they are the epitome of freedom, they are the epitome of free this and free that, it's the exact opposite.

They are oppressors.

Because if you do not conform, if you do not agree, if you do not openly support? Well, look what happens you if you have a pizza shop. Look what happens to you if you have a bakery. Look what happens to you if you have a photography business. Have you heard about the Department of Homeland Security agent who has been stripped of her gun, nearly lost her daughter, and has had her life destroyed simply because she blew the whistle on an immigration visa program?

She "testified Thursday that she nearly lost custody of her 1-year-old adopted daughter and was told that she could not own a personal firearm after she voiced concerns about a little known federal program that grants green cards to foreign investors. Taylor Johnson, a senior special agent with a division of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), testified at a Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs hearing alongside several other whistleblowers who claim they’ve faced retaliation for reporting wrongdoing in their agencies."

There's no freedom with these people. There's total conformation, conformity with the consensus or else. Now, this story is... It's a think piece. It's a philosophical think piece and it's pretty long and I can't go through the whole thing here. All I can do is highlight some things that are relevant. But the point that it makes is that we have been under attack -- our culture has been under attack and assault -- for decades now by something called psychological warfare.

Let me give you a couple of pull quotes to give you an idea of what this piece is about. And, by the way, the piece has found somebody who predicted 60 years ago exactly what's happening in our culture right now.

"Many newly propagandized ideas seem to have taken America by storm just in the past decade or so. Same-sex marriage is only one of those ideas. Transgenderism is now eclipsing that notion, and its propaganda techniques -- wrapped in the language of civil rights -- are getting Americans on board with the idea of erasing all sex distinctions in law, including their own. It’s as though Americans are buying into a fast-talking sales pitch without being allowed to read the print, whether it’s large print or small.

"There’s more on the horizon: a singles’ rights movement that promises to end legal recognition of all marriage. Then there is transhumanism, which includes a push to end 'fleshism' by enacting laws that protect non-biological entities from discrimination," i.e., animals and other things.

But there is a single rights movement. I don't know if you've heard about it, but the singles rights movement, it's classic. It is a fraudulent movement, and it's designed to appear as a reaction to gay marriage and transgenderism, people who want to remain single and not be discriminated against. But it's actually all part of the same movement to obliterate everything traditionally to do with marriage. The objective of the singles rights movement is to end all legal recognition of marriage anywhere it can be found. Here are some quick little pull quotes from the piece.

"American conservatives are by and large clueless about propaganda methods and tactics. And it shows. ... Even benign reminders of the First Amendment -- embodied in Religious Freedom Restoration Acts -- are quickly dispatched by mob hysteria. ... When it comes to understanding the inner workings of social psychology and political correctness, we seem to be at a loss. ... But the groundwork for mass hysteria like this was stealthily laid for decades, and the minefields sown."

Now, here's how it begins. "How To Escape The Age Of Mass Delusion," which is what this is all being described as being. "Mass delusion is an important tool of oppressors because they can’t survive free expression. That’s why the First Amendment’s a target. Nearly 100 years ago, Walter Lippmann wrote about 'the manufacture of consent' in his classic work, 'Public Opinion.' On the heels of that book, Edward Bernays penned a little volume called 'Propaganda,' in which he stated that an elite would always be responsible for making the public aware of 'new ideas' which the public would then act upon as the elite nudged them into it. Related, but more in-depth is Jacques Ellul’s 1962 book, 'Propaganda: The Formation of Men’s Attitudes.'

"Political propaganda aims to mobilize the masses to move an agenda forward. That’s most effectively done when the masses are unaware of the process. It’s what 'community organizers' work towards, whether they know it or not. Once the masses are mobilized to push for a cause, the propagandists’ goals can be put into law.

Look at gay marriage as an example here or transgenderism or anything else that you think is an effort to upend centuries-old, traditional cultural institutions. Mobilize masses of people to move an agenda forward. It's most effectively done when the masses are unaware of the process.

It’s as though Americans are buying into a fast-talking sales pitch without being allowed to read the print, whether it’s large print or small."

And the propaganda is directing us leftward. "American conservatives are by and large clueless about propaganda methods and tactics. And it shows. There are virtually no conservative social psychologists around. You’d think once a liberal social psychologist hits the public over the head with this fact some on the Right would take notice and at least try to get clued in," or stand up. But no.

The reason they don't, the reason the Republicans don't is because the pressure to be hip and cool is so big because of the Republicans' brand problem, that along comes transgenderism and Republican after Republican, "Hey, if that's what a person wants to be, that's perfectly fine with me," rather than call it what it is. Basically what's happening here, the insane and the deranged and the whatever are snowballing, and they are a minority. They are snowballing the American culture here. The slightest little push-back is met with total obliteration.

Now, there's a factor here this piece doesn't mention. I don't think all this propaganda and -- you know, how long ago was transgenderism something that was way over there. There was nothing mainstream about it whatsoever. It was just not spoken of. Now it's front and center, it's normal, and, in fact, it's celebrated. Magazine covers do it. I don't think any of this could have happened this rapidly without Twitter. I think Twitter is a sewer. Well, Twitter has many sewers in it where a lot of Twitter trolls live. And the sewers of Twitter happen to be profoundly influential because they bully and threaten and intimidate. They quiet people. They shut people up. They get people fired. It is an incredible sociological thing to watch happen. It amazes me and how there is no push-back to any of this.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Let me just cut to the chase on this because it's a really, really long and convoluted think piece. You have to strip this away to make the complex understandable. And basically this is what it is.

The left has been using social psychology on the masses for decades, creating conventional wisdom out of absolutely weird, convoluted stuff, using of course media, all media at their disposal to do so. The important thing about this is -- and it's undeniable, folks -- the important thing is that if you believe that, say, conservatives can fight this and oppose this on reason and logic alone, you're kidding yourself.

Reason and logic will not overcome mass delusion. An example of mass delusion would be a Jim Jones cult, where they all drank the purple Kool-Aid thinking they're gonna hop on the Hale-Bopp comet or whatever it was and head off to some new paradise. That was mass delusion brought on by propaganda, and all the logic and reason in the world. Families got hold of their kids that were members and they tried to get to 'em with reason and logic and it failed because reason and logic is not what entrapped them or ensnared them in the first place.

This is why so many Republican leaders are caving on so many principles, it's because they don't know and can't find a way to deal with this mass delusion of the propaganda that is the agenda of the left.

BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: Hey, if you're on hold out there, folks, hang on. We're coming to you el quicko. Do not go anywhere. I'm about to wrap this up here, although I'm not about to wrap it up. This is gonna be an ongoing theme here, but, I mean, I'm about to wrap up the introductory segment, if I can call it that.

Let me ask you a question. Are you or have you found yourself -- be honest, now. You don't have to open your mouth and admit this to anybody. Just nod your head. Have you found yourself scratching your head or looking around watching the news, whatever, wondering how in hell everything's gone to hell so fast? Have you been scratching your head wondering how in the world have things seemingly turned upside down overnight in our country? Have you asked yourself that? A lot of people are.

And the answer is found -- and I don't mean to be simplifying this -- in the concept of mass delusion that results from propaganda. It's nothing new, folks. I'm not claiming I've discovered something new. This is something actually very old. The important thing here is that all of these supposedly brand-new, enlightened attitudes are not the result of substance and genuineness. They are resulting from propaganda. People are having their minds played with, and they are ending up being delusional. I'll give you some examples.

Look at the silencing tactics, the successful silencing tactics of something called the LGBT lobby. Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender lobby. Whatever that is, it's less than 2% of the American population. And yet look at how they are steamrolling the entire population and demanding conformity or else. A lot of people are probably thinking, "Gee, I thought marriage equality was the gay rights movement. I didn't realize that fascism was part of the package."

You thought gay rights was an equality movement. You thought gay rights was based and rooted in equality, and the people promoting it, that's all they cared about was equality. You had no idea that fascism was gonna be a part of it, and that is that if you didn't agree with it, you are a target. If you don't love it, you are a target. There's a great unraveling of American culture taking place. It's happening rapidly. And just ask anybody who happens to utter the wrong pronoun.

A college professor has been fired for telling a lame joke about women, literally fired. Jerry Seinfeld, the comedian, has joined Chris Rock in saying he's not gonna play college campuses anymore. You know why? They don't find anything funny. They don't laugh. They're all offended. How the hell did that happen? College campuses? College campuses are supposed to be where everything goes. College campuses are so closed now, mind closed.

The thing about Seinfeld and Chris Rock that needs to be pointed out, it's their political movement. I mean, these guys are liberals. And it's their political buddies that have brought all this on. I find it ironic that here Jerry Seinfeld, big lib, complaining about what's going on on liberal college campuses. You can't go 'cause they don't even want to laugh. It's his side of the aisle that's brought this about and he's out there lecturing them from afar. I mean, he's not gonna go on campus and lecture 'em 'cause he knows what'll happen to him.

It's really stunning. This unraveling is happening at a rapid pace, and you could be branded a hater, you could be fired, you could be targeted on Twitter, and you could be held up for public ridicule by everybody else who's fallen for this consensus with one slip. That's why everybody conforms, that's why everybody caves and goes along 'cause they don't want to be the target of these people, and it's very clear what happens to targets. Cake stores, photography stores, pizza stores, just three examples. And you know how this manifests itself?

Look at Mike Pence. This is a great example, what happened in Indiana. The Religious Freedom Restoration Act. All it was was a restating of what's already in the Constitution. And look at the hysteria, look at the mob hysteria. You wonder how did this happen? The governor of Indiana or a little pizza owner in Indiana makes a statement and tens of thousands of people storm that little pizza store with e-mail and tweets, governor's office ditto, to the point that both of them cave, overnight?

Mike Pence goes out, promotes the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, goes on TV very proud about it, very proud of it, happy to say that Indiana has made this law, that he signed it. The next day he caved. And I don't mean to be ripping Pence here. I'm giving illustrations of how this all happens. The mob is exactly what it is. A mob. It's a mob made up of conformists who have been propagandized into believing things. I don't believe, for example, that they are all issue oriented liberals.

I don't think liberalism is that big. I mean, look, I make a fine point here. They clearly are acting liberal, they're being inspired by liberals, being motivated by liberals, but it's not liberalism that they're being propagandized with. In fact, liberals are not saying, "Join us, become a good liberal and do this." They're just being propagandized into enforcing and implementing liberalism. They may not even be. They may be apolitical when all this all starts. They may just be harmless, innocent little kids that get caught up in all this on campus. It's a moot point, it really doesn't matter, but I'm just thinking here in terms of eventually beating it back and stopping it.

It's not that liberalism has become massive. It's the mob has, and half these people engaging in these mob-style tactics, they don't think of themselves as liberals. They think of themselves as crusaders enforcing the consensus, and the biggest enemy that people like this mob face is the First Amendment. The biggest enemy is free speech. The biggest enemy is free expression. Anybody who engages in it becomes the target for destruction. Getting fired, having everything about them possible ruined. That's the objective because free speech has got to be so scary to people that they don't engage in it. The only way to have a peaceful life is to conform, shut up, and don't upset the apple cart. It's exactly where we are and it seems like this has happened overnight.

And ask yourself this. As you watch cable news, as you listen to talk radio, as you read whatever you read, has it struck you that there seem to be few independent thinkers anymore? Does it not seem that no matter where you go you're gonna get a variation of the same theme, be it on the left or on the right, wherever you go? I mean, how many places -- this not a criticism per se of anybody. I'm just making an observation here. How many of you, in your daily pursuit of the news, how many of you, in the daily pursuit of staying informed, actually encounter things that make you go, "Wow. I didn't think of that. Wow. My God, I hadn't thought of that."

It happens less and less, doesn't it? Why do you think? Let me give you a theory. I think newspaper consumption and magazine consumption, media consumption in general, advertising pages are down, revenue is down, profits are down, I think that the problem of course is rooted in liberal bias, but it's because it's all the same.

I used to say in the early days of this program, if you miss the New York Times, no big deal, read the Washington Post. If you miss the Washington Post, no big deal, read USA Today. If you miss that, no big deal, read the LA Times. If you miss all that, turn on CBS. If you miss that, catch NBC. If you miss that, catch ABC. You miss that, turn on CNN. Because it's all the same. But miss the Rush Limbaugh program, and there's nowhere else to go to get what happens here. All of this media is becoming conformed. It's all the same. It's different people but the same opinions, the same reactions.

And so this mass delusion and conformity is occurring even in the media. By design, by the way. And the few independent thinkers left, they don't know what hit 'em. A woman gets banned at her gym and labeled a bigot because she told management that a man -- who she only later learned "identified as female" -- entered the locker room while she was getting undressed. So this woman's in the gym. Somebody walks into the locker room. She thinks it's a man and she reports it.

It turns out that it was a transgender who walked in. "It was not a man. It was a man who thought he was a woman," and the woman who complained was thrown out of her gym, not the guy who wants to be thought of as a woman, who entered the women's locker room! The guy that walked into the women's locker room is celebrated. "He's a great guy. He's a transgender!" The woman who didn't want a man with male genitalia walking into her locker room complaining about it? She gets thrown out of the gym!

Comedians shut down. Chris Rock and Seinfeld admitting they're shut down on college campuses, not gonna go there, apparently totally clueless that it's their own ideology that is shutting them out. But I think it's fair to say, never before have the media and pop culture dictated in such a Draconian manner how each and every one of us is supposed to think about identity, everyone else's identity and our own. Not just identity. I don't think we have ever been at a point in time in life like this where we are demanded, ordered, commanded to think identically about issues that the left holds dear.

Look at Ferguson, Missouri! It's a great example. "Hands up, don't shoot" did not happen. Yes, it did! The propaganda is that "hands up, don't shoot" happened, that the kid was running away; he was shot in the back after trying to surrender by a white racist cop. The facts produced by the grand jury are irrelevant. In fact, those are ignored and shut down and discredited because the delusion is and the consensus is that "hands up, don't shoot" happened. In Baltimore, the same situation. It's playing out there all over again.

Media propaganda urging that everybody accept the false -- the demonstrably false -- version of an event. There's no real debate on the merits or policies that depend on blind faith in man-made global warming. If you disagree with it, you're called a denier, even though it cannot be proven! There is no man-made global warming. It cannot be established; it cannot be proven. In fact it's been established to be a hoax, and the man leading it claims to be a scientist. He's not. Algore!

Fraud!

Everywhere on these left-wing movements, fraud makes up a vast amount of it. But the fraud succeeds in propagandizing, and as this piece points out: Refuting all this stuff with reason and logic just doesn't seem to make a dent. Which is why people obsessed and possessed with reason and logic reach a frustration level and give up. "My gosh, if reason and logic are not gonna inform people, convert people, and get people back off of this stuff, then I don't know what to do." So they check out, go move behind the gated community and hope the cops don't show at their swimming pool.

And they don't know specifically why,

It is the libtard disintegrated mode of thought which leads to subjectivism, which leads to emotionalism, reductionism, relativism, and skepticism, whim-worship, and self-actualization, which leads to anything goes. This is what libtards want because they want to rebel against and escape religious constraints.

and they certainly don't know how to stop it

they need to be reminded that every individual is answerable to God and government, family, church, and work are God ordained institutions, and that every aspect of life is spiritual. Thus God's commands in the Bible apply to every facet of society and man.

They have created a Gulag / Siberia without walls, it is brilliant. Call you an " _ _ _ ist" and you shall be destroyed and quieted all in one shot not to be heard from again without firing an ole fashioned Stalin shot. It is ideology over reality, at some-point an Achilles Heal will show itself, I don't have a counter strategy, but someone will.

I got to spend sometime around some young millenials the other day and they were brutally politically incorrect to one another to the point I thought I was hanging around cops when they let their guard down and are busting each others b@!!s in a manor that eye opening, the comradery was that tight.

Perhaps they realize they are in a bizarro world and this is their way of coping with it. They had shed all the "-ism's" by being an "ist" to one another, it didn't matter they truly were friends to the core. It was interesting to say the least.

Maybe their is the next Lennie Bruce or Don Rickels amongst this generation and maybe the tool will be comedy to break through this insanity....
