While Europe has had state-sanctioned anti-Semitism for generations, Germany was the birth-place of "Reform Judaism.' Historically, religious Jews rarely assimilated, but Reform Judaism allowed it, and quite frankly Jews hoped that those with anti-semetic views would finally see them as Germans first. This was one of the reasons so many German Jews were slow to realize what was going on with the NAZIs. For the first time, they thought the government would protect them from the anti-semites, since they saw themselves as "good Germans" first, many of whom fought for Germany during WWI.
They were wrong.

Leftism is a jealous god. That is why it despises Christianity, unless it is a version of “Chistianitiy” such as Obama’s “church” that puts liberalism and politics above faith, or makes them the most important part of the faith.
