Former Christianity Today Editor Praises Tony Campolo’s Call for ‘Full Acceptance’ of Homosexuals

A former editor of a prominent Christian publication is praising Tony Campolo after he announced this week that he has decided to endorse and speak out for the inclusion of open homosexuals in the Body of Christ—a move that is generating concern among Christians nationwide.

“God bless Tony Campolo,” wrote retired Christianity Today editor David Neff on Facebook this week. “He is acting in good faith and is, I think, on the right track.”

Campolo’s wife, Peggy, is a homosexual activist and believes that the Church should be accepting of same-sex “marriage.” He explained that his wife is one of the reasons why he has decided to endorse acceptance of homosexuals in Christianity. . . . .

Mark Tooley, the president of the Institute on Religion and Democracy, also commented on Neff in The Stream.

“Neff in recent years has inclined leftward, especially in his former role on the executive board of the National Association of Evangelicals,” he wrote, stating that Neff has backed “ostensible ‘compromise’ abortion language from Democrats to ease passage of Obamacare” and endorsed “Jim Wallis’s ‘Circle of Protection’ around federal entitlement programs,” among other items.

These “leaders” must be well funded by their flocks, who are probably uninformed as to their positions.

Campolla is a ‘New Age pantheist’..... Often favorably cites social and theological radicals such as Karl Marx, Paul Tillich, Martin Buber and Teilard deChardin.

In the New Age deception Christ mystically indwells every human being, the idea that Christ lives in all human beings, whether or not they are Christians. Campolo agrees with this position and clearly has been influenced by it. “We want to convince the whole human race that there is a God who established the infinite value of every person, who mystically dwells in each person....” (Tony Campolo, A Reasonable Faith responding to secularism, p.59)

He is consistently un-biblical in his teaching. In his book A Reasonable Faith he makes the pantheistic statement that the resurrected Jesus of history is actually present in each person, whether Christian or not. ...and that’s New Age mumbo-jumbo.

...”Tony is a Change Agent whose vision is to change America’s churches, with radical new ideas that are not based from the Bible or its principles”.....

....”Campolo is on Renovaré’s “Board of Reference.” Renovaré is a New Age, ecumenical organization that practices the “meditative” and “contemplative” lifestyle “of early Christianity. There are also many new age influences found in his books”.....

They’re following a teacher rather than the Biblical Christ.

December 17, 2013; Interview by Jonathan Merritt, On Faith & Culture on RNS (Religious News Service).

“Tony Campolo might rightly be described as one of the founding fathers of the modern day “Christian left.” An ordained baptist minister and son of a union organizer, Campolo gained prominence as a spiritual advisor to President Bill Clinton. He’s the founder of the Evangelical Organization for the Promotion of Education and the namesake for Eastern University’s Campolo School for Social Change. Progressive evangelical Jim Wallis calls Campolo his “favorite evangelist.”

.....”The enemy is in the camp!”....

Jesus told us this would come..... the Emergent Church Movement is making vast inroads into mainstream Christianity and with the Pope on their stance with Islam.

.....”The growing mystical movement in the church is making great inroads because of some very visible speakers that promote it. ....For example, Tony Campolo in his book Speaking My Mind states: “Mysticism [contemplative prayer] provides some hope for common ground between Christianity and Islam” (p.149) (reported in lighthousetrails newsletter).

Is this his answer for peaceful coexistence? Are we to be looking for common ground or how to reach this religion by evangelizing? And of all places, mysticism, which the Bible tells us to stay away from. .

A false teacher.

Let him be anathema.

Surprisingly but thankfully CT has soundly rejected Neff’s support of Campolo and have distanced themselves from any thought that same sex marriage is ok.

None of these people cite scripture. They see the world and embrace it which tells me there are many heathens within the church attempting to corrupt it.

Thank you for sharing that as I was not aware of that. I am simply heartsick at these professing Christians who have so easily succumbed to this obvious deceit from the pit of hell.

Campolo is the one who told Clinton that oral sex is not adultery according to the Bible.

” . . . through Peggy, I have come to know so many gay Christian couples whose relationships work in much the same way as our own,” he said.

Hey Tony, if you look into it a bit, you might find a couple of significant things that work much differently - actually, from the standpoint of joining your love to that of your spouse and that of almighty God to start a family, they don’t work at all.

It’s the Holy Spirit which dwells in Christians. Not Jesus.

And Our Lord was quite clear on this point — the Holy Spirit is given to Christians as a comforter until Christ returns.
